I recently bought a conversion kit through a company called Unity and it was a bad experience from they time i seen the box show up. I know there's reliable and quality companies out their, but my question is and I've heard from a few individuals on the street that stock parts from a non air controlled T-Bird could be fitted into the Lincoln Mark VIII.I feel that if the members here are dedicated and have a forum they must be pretty hardcore so iinfo on this subject would be greatly appreciated...Thank You.....ok..ok..I apologize I'm new here and did find discussions on using T-Bird parts but finding the right year is next.

A member on here did a thread with details on his conversion.
His name is Kirk. I started out with a Strutmasters kit just to see if i liked it. It was cheap and worked well for about 20,000 miles.
When i decided to convert properly i followed Kirks details. I am very happy the car handles like its on rails.
Good Luck

We are about as hardcore as it gets!. I typed that while yelling and gritting my teeth because I am HARDCORE.

Many opinions on the conversion. Why do you want to convert to springs?

I guess maybe the main reason for conversion is maybe too many reason for something to go wrong. If it was a new car under warranty I'd say yes but I would like the car to have some creature features but..im just saying maybe cause I was raised with the OG way

Mr Brooklyn I have looked all through the Lincoln discussions involving conversions and could not find a gentleman by the name of Kirk, and I did do a lil reading on a couple of things you said and one that really caught my attention is using a heavier rear sway link for the rear out of a Crown Vic. In the Lincoln I know have. I purchased for $800.00 with 135,000 miles on it. I knew going into it what I wanted to do with it.I have 80% of new parts to totally rebuild the suspension and if you could please tell me what year struts and or model you used would be helpful.AND PLEASE IF YOU EVER DECIDE TO DO THE 6 SPEED SWAP HOLA HOLLA...Please and Thank You

Well, we've had a few Kirks, but the one that came to mind was kstromberg. Biggest personality.. :) A little searching came up with this, which may at least be a good reference point.

Other searches for things like "air ride" or "spring conversion" will probably yield good results.

I know that the folks over at Super Coupe Performance sell a QA1 Coilover kit also, but it's not a cheap date. I would guess that the performance is good though.

Back to your original question. You can purchase T-bird suspension parts for the mark 8. Both the lower and upper control arms fit. Many people have done this. Some opinions are the LCA's are the same part and lower price as a t-bird part. I have cars with the T-bird LCA's. The t-bird UCA's fit but do not have the ride height sensor bracket so they can only be used with a spring conversion. I would assume a stock OEM strut would work, but everyone buys aftermarket. Strutmaster works and is a common choice but opinions on ride quality are mixed. The lowered spring/strut kits from American Air Suspension were popular and may still be an option. Another option is to make your own spring-strut combo using parts from Vogtland, Toxico, Koni, etc.

Bill at Super Coupe also sells the American Air kits for $500. Look on the second page. Bill has been selling stuff to us for a long time. He would be worth calling if you are not sure what to do. He has several options available.

Thank You Beerdog...yeah the mixed results of the ride quality is my issue and I'm thinking I may build a unit with after market parts .I almost went with the Strut Master until I heard someone say they only got like 20,000 miles off it.And would like to ask the gentleman in one article why he used T-Bird SC springs on all 4 corners. When I get the time I'll cross reference and check on the struts. You all are making me think again. And I'll give you a personal Thank you for your insight.

Beerdog I after looking through a lot of companies and cost I'm thinking to go a head with KYB for now to at least get this car rolling. If you've heard anything wrong with them please let me know

My American Air conversion kit went on perfectly. Now 70,000 miles later my ride is a little rough and I blame the front struts. We'll see if it gets better when I replace them this fall.

I did not like the shocks bleeding down on the highway and going into ramps with a soft suspension.

lowered 1-1/2" kits from AAS were strutmaster kits...I have well over 50k on my 98 LSC kit and my 94's kit has over 125k when I sold it....they handles just as well as day 1.
Best improvement was the Addco 1-1/4" rear sway bar....

Arnott.....lifetime warranty means ship the old worn out stuff back and you'll replace it free?
