when i turn my lights on the gas gauge goes all the way up and the rpm gauge goes to 0. but when there off everything works fine. what could this be, i was told that its the light bulb on the rpm side of the cluster, and it was grounding it out. any ideas?

Yes.
You have to first verify the standing (disconnected) voltage of your battery. The alternator needs the ability to correctly recharge the battery and maintain the system. All engine bay negative and positive connections need to be cleaned and resecured.

These steps are preliminary to actually diagnosing the cluster system, which may simply need to be reground.
