I recently purchased a 97 LSC for 700 bucks.

I am a mustang guy but blew my motor due to low oil and a catastophic clutch failure on an on ramp, all my fault honestly.

I bought the mark to rip the engine out but after driving it, doing some simple maintenance....i couldn't bring myself to rip her guts out. I titled her and now she runs.

Her main problems are as follows.

clunk in front suspension
squishing sound from rear suspension
awful brakes
passenger rear lower then rest of car

My mustang will be donating cobra brakes, wheels and tires. Ill get a 2.5 trubends exhaust w/ dynamax race bullets (see how fast i get tired of the loudness) soon as well.

...im off on my merry way to gather 5 posts so I can PM 98mark8lsc about some parts.

700 bucks !! That's a steal !! Does it still have the air ride? Leaky bags can be a bitch but not impossible to fix, adjusting the sensor can actually buy you some time. She's a beauty, excellent find.

Welcome!!

Although you wouldn't have been the first to find a cheap "mustang motor" that comes with a free scrap chassis, we're glad to see you fixing 'er up.

None of those problems are particularly significant. Upgrading the brakes is likely the most ambitious of the list.
Your low rear-passenger side could be as easy as adjusting the ride height sensor.. they all bolt into a "slot" that allows you to make up 1/4" or so of travel..
The clunking and squishing may take a bit of research to track down though. There's a few causes of those problems. :)

You'll also want to pick up one of those 3M headlight polishing kits from your local auto parts store. It'll work wonders on those headlights!

Welcome. I too bought mine to kill (for a Mustang project as well) and ended up loving it enough to save it after a 'fatal' header into a guardrail. The MKVIII shares enough with other chassis' that it can be upgraded and enjoyed. I can help you out with some of your questions as I have either done or am doing a lot of what you are wanting to do.

Welcome! You've found the place with a great bunch of people that will help you fix up that "parts car" of yours. :wink2-green

Obviously if you are used to working on Stangs the VIII is a big jump with it's FN-10 chassis and all but you'll figure it out quickly enough; just keep in mind it will never be as cheap and easy as a Stang.

Good luck with it!
