I joined to try to find out what you Mark VIII folks are using for your IRS bushings, mounts, etc. I'm planning on installing a IRS in my 56 Ford Panel along with the Mark VIIIs DOHC 4.6. But all the bushings and mounts are Obsolete???? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

We've got a few members turning custom bushings out of Delrin for this purpose, but it is likely stiffer than you are seeking. Like Chris notes above, these parts are becoming difficult to find new.

We'd also love to hear about your project. It sounds like an interesting one. it having the "heart" of a Mark VIII is good enough for us. :D

Welcome

Unfortunately you'll have to either find good used parts or go with the limited performance options out there.

That problem can be fixed easily enough. "we have 3D printers now". All it would take is to caliper and dimension a factory rubber bushing with AUTO CAD program, make a 2 piece mold with set alignment pins, off my 3D printer, Find a manufacturer with a rubber casting pourable rubber that pours into mold and separates easily, and wala. We have factory new bushings and body mounts for all the members here if they don't want the harder Delrin or polyurethane stuff. Everything is doable....just takes time. Locating sutible new bolts and fat washers wouldn't be that hard either. Were all hot rodders here. If its not made already or available you make it yourself. I'll put this project on the list to do with the others.

I would think machining hard rubber pucks would be a more efficient way to custom make the bushings?

I agree, but in case they run into a brick wall, there are other options. Someone with a lathe could knock them out pretty easily with a blade attachment. All they really are is rubber hockey puck looking things with a bushing in them that swells the rubber once tightened. I would prefer to have pure new rubber ones over the poly units for vibration dampening alone. Also, it someone picks this idea up they can grab the front strut rod bushings project as well. Definitely putting my delrin bushings in the lower control arms once the engine/tranny is pulled, and leaving the polyurethane bushings in the center carrier, but would prefer to have rubber from K member to body, and IRS to body.
