Well, I was checking out the headlights on my 97 LSC and found something disturbing. At some point in my cars life the HID's went bad and someone spliced extension cord to halogen pigtails for the low beams. Fortunately they didn't cut off the plug and I might be able to reinstall an OEM set or an aftermarket plug and play. Any suggestions?

Not sure I am following you correctly. Are you saying someone put in low beam halogen bulbs in place of the low beam HID housings? And then they used high beam pig tails? Once the HID bulbs were no longer manufactured Lincoln came up with a new halogen bulb housing that was retrofitted. Could that be what you have?

I was wondering if he had the halogen housings also. Are there any markings to look for on those that make them easy to differentiate?

The only car I know of that has them for sure, is Sharon's..

I would guess to fit the halogen bulb into that housing it would have to accept the halogen plug.

Also I wonder if the splicing was SOP for replacement.

The halogen housing come with a rather long pigtail that plugs in where the factory ballasts get their power, in fromt of the radiator. If he has Halogen housing, there should have been no need for someone to rig up some kind of weird harness.

97BlownCobra, can you post some pics of what you're working with?

Huh. Wow...

So, you definitely have HID housings. That looks like a halogen bulb, and their choice of wires is pretty hilarious. That's gotta throw some pretty weird light patterns.

Like you said though, the factory harness is intact, and that's what's most important. I'd recommend an aftermarket kit. You don't have to get it from me, but I make and sell the only plug and play kit available. I've gone ahead and made it as easy as possible, with a set of modified harnesses to plug directly into those plugs at the front of the radiator. My kit also includes the adapters to mount the new bulbs, as well as a set of new bulbs and ballasts. I also sell the adapters separately if you're interested in doing the wiring yourself.
