Opinion on the LS

I've been toying with getting rid of the Mark, and the man van and getting one year round car that I can drive, and have been looking at the Lincoln LS. Is there any thing in particular to look out for on these cars, any known issues, which years are easier to find parts for etc....also I've been seeing some 04-06s with 150,000+ miles going for a pretty decent price would it be worth it? Also what do you think of the early V-6s with the manual tranny??? Any info would be appreciated thanks.

good luck finding a first gen with a manual tranny. they are rare. and parts for that trans are hard to come by. its a German built Getrag.

you need to look out for:

first gens 00-02:
coils
plastic coolant parts
DCCV
secondary timing chain tensioners
clock spring

2nd gens 03-06:
coils
plastic cooling parts
DCCV
clock spring

bad coils can kill catalytic converters, DCCVs and PCMs because of the interference they create when dying.

2nd gen V8s got a decent power bump, and 06s are regarded to be the most reliable.

at 150k, it will be needing a suspension rebuild, coils and cooling system parts if they haven't been replaced lately.

you should expect to pay around $8000 for a decent car.

What is a DCCV??? and what is the general consensus on the V6 with a manual tranny????

also is the timing chain a V-8, or a V-6 issue????

the DCCV is the Dual Climate Control Valve. it is an integral part of the heating and cooling system.

the timing chain tensioners seems to be more of a first gen V8 thing. i put 2nd gen tensioners in our 2000 V8 LS.

the v6 with the manual trans is just fine until it needs trans work. the clutch/flywheel/pressure plate are not easy to come by.
