Can't shut my radio off.....took it out opened it up and looked at the switch, took it out but I'm intimidated by it.....the way it's enclosed I'm sure to break something, yes I'm sure.....There was a thread from a person who showed how to fix the on/off switch but I'm not sure if was on here or LVC.....Could someone help me? It's either fix it or get an after market radio..... My name is Bruce L. Hansen....Senior Citizen.....and I don't suffer fools. OK,Ok I wasn't going to say anything.....IT'S MY BIRTHDAY!!!! ......77..........I told you all I was a senior citizen.:frown:

Happy birthday!!

I've had that switch completely apart, and I can't really recommend anyone attempt the same. the insides of the switch itself are pretty complex, and not really repairable. I'd suggest one of the following (listed from laziest, to most complex)

1) leave it on "radio" (AM or FM) when you exit the car, and just turn the volume all the way down.
2) find someone here with an extra head unit you can just swap in
3) place a toggle switch in the "12v switched ignition" lead on the back of the deck, and mount it somewhere nearby.
4) place a toggle switch across the two conductors on the little ribbon cable that the power switch is attached to inside the radio. (pins 1 and 4, if I recall - the "outside" two) verifying this with a VOM would be wise, however.
5) I did actually find a vendor willing to sell me that switch, but it was pretty expensive - $40 or so - and I sure can't remember now where I found 'em.

Here's the other thread that talks about this issue: http://www.lincolnsofdistinction.org/vbulletin/showthread.php?31470-Radio-on-off-switch

I had one car that did that. I sprayed the switch with contact cleaner a few times, and a few blasts of air, and it started working. Contact cleaner can mess up your plastic stuff
