Re: Buying a 1995 Lincoln MKVIII

It looks pretty good although I haven't seen it in the flesh.
Checked it out on carfax and it seems the 95K miles is genuine.
He wants $1500 which seems cheap but I've had the same model and I know there are some expensive pitfalls! Anyonwe got any advice?

If the car is in good shape, that's a tough price to beat.

Have you at least seen pictures? what's the condition? Is anything broken presently?

The seller says its misfiring a little..."Probably needs new plugs" his comment. Knowing a little bit about these cars and the wonderful TC engine, I reckon to may need new plugs and new coils. I donut want to run it all the way back home as if it blows a plug ....aarrrggh! I'll either dolly tow it or have it shipped. Either way I'm going to buy it as its worth that price in parts. My plan is to work on the car in my spare time, renew bushes, suspension parts etc. Maybe strip the engine down to the heads, timing chains etc. Any advice on anything will be much appreciated. I love these cars. I had a 97 LSC that was absolutely magnificent...the best car I have owned apart form maybe my old Maserati :)

How far away is it? swapping coils on a 2nd gen is trivial. I'd just pick it up with a couple spare coils in my pocket (and a code-reader,) and hope for the best.. :)

Edit:

Wait.. '95 isn't first gen, or coil-on-plug.. I take all of that back.

Well, just advise that you interpret my thoughts through the OBD-1 lens, anyway.. :D

If you see rust just pass on it. Unfortunately these cars are worth nothing, hot rodders will buy that car just to get the engine.

Meh... I blew a plug and still drove the car from Mass to Detroit... just gotta keep it at 80 or above, otherwise it bucks real bad. :D
