Replacing the door/bumper plastic chrome strip

I replaced the chrome strips on my bumper today.

They don't make the original part anymore. The part I used is flat on the adhesive side. That works fine for the doors and quarter trim, but the original bumper peice is angled on the adhesive side.

The strip I used is a Flexi Chrome part HR018C.

Here's some photos. I tried to show the difference between the original and the flat one, and how it fits in the bumper channel.

I just split a length of double sided tape and put each half on each strip, to act as a shim to angle the strip properly, or at least, close.:)

Looks good. :)

I didn't know the front bumper strip was different. I have replaced the side strip before. The hardest part was getting all the old sticky stuff off.

I've since used an eraser wheel for jobs like that but I don't think it would fit the groove?

Thanks JP.

You'll be happy to hear that the bumper strip adhesive is not as hard to remove as the door and quarter pieces.:)

Bill...What did you do to get all the adhesive off the doors and panels? I need to change mine...I was also thinking of stripping it and painting it black...It would bring a bit of the interior to the exterior. IF someone could photoshop it,I would appreciate it. TIA. BTW,it's a '97,so I only have to do the doors and panels.

I used an old kind of rounded off screwdriver to pry the adhesive off. I don't think there is an easy way to remove that stuff.:(

Doesn't "GOO-GONE" work? Then apply cleaner/wax to cover what the GOO-GONE took off in wax.
