Seat Belt Shoulder Strap Position

Hello All,
As they say, the only silly questions is the one not asked.

So... The seat belt shoulder strap is a bit high and rubs my neck.

I have seen seat belt strap adjusters that attach to the headrest supports and help hold the shoulder strap to the top corner of the seat.

Are there any that will fit my mark?

Yes Steve, I'm only 5'8" but prefer to sit "sports car" low.

When I raise the seat I feel like i'm in a mini-van or truck.:(

I can sure sympathize with that.. A little searching on Amazon found two different devices that claim to solve this problem, but I don't really like either one. one was a "clip" to put over the shoulder strap near the top so that it cannot retract, and instead leaves some slack. The other was a device that clipped around both the waist and shoulder belt near the buckle.. I didn't think that looked real safe either.

Take a look at this though.

It looks like it could be made to fit. I can't find measurements of the hole spacing, but the design is pretty similar to what is on our cars..

Something like this could be a solution, too

I often pull the belts out and twist them together one turn before buckling. I have been doing that for years and have no abnormal belt wear. It seams safe with no clip to let loose causing slack.

Hi Mike,
I was also looking at the BMW one too and that is the design that I like.

I also did not find the specifications for the hole spacing. I wonder if it would be worthwhile getting one to try out.

I saw that Amazon one too, (and the reviews,) and thought (hoped?) that it might be a knock-off. Still, for the price, it may be worth experimenting with. I'm hoping that with those two chrome bars between the headrest "holes" that it may be somewhat adjustable.. Since it's for a BMW, I wouldn't necessarily count on it fitting easily. But with some creativity, I suspect it could be done.

Hello All,
I'm still looking and found these off a Mark V (77-79).
They look like they may work if i make a connector for the headrest.
What do you think?

Looks like they could get the job done. You'll want to coat them with some kind of "hard" paint though. Epoxy? My experience with that kind of plastic on my '86 Lincoln was that it is pretty sturdy, but gets sun checked and ugly, fairly easily.

I struggle to think of an elegant way to extend that bracket to catch the second post on the headrest though, but that may only matter if you drive with the headrest slightly extended, which you may not.

Maybe a piece of "U" channel aluminum secured underneath it? with two holes in the aluminum for the headrest posts, one of which would overlap that hole in the bracket.. Then you could use two machine screws and nuts through those small existing holes to secure the bracket to the aluminum..

Thanks Mike.
I was thinking of the same design but in using a plastic extender.
I will likely keep looking since these are over $40 on fleeBay.

Hello All,
I could not get the ones above, but i found these (Camaro) seat belt guides.
I think i can make mounts to attach the headrest. SO the question is: how do i get the headrest off the seat?

Well, it sure isn't pretty, but if it's (finally) comfortable, that's a success!

I suppose you could clean up the look a little by removing the two "square" pieces designed to hold electronics.. If they're removable, anyway.. :)

I'm glad you have a "version 1.0" solution. Pretty clever finding that tablet holder for the mount.
