An on site mechanic while waiting at OPP HQ today at the flue shot clinic.
He’s been there a couple years doing preparation for service installs on new squad cars

350 on to 400 series detachments with real time cyber links pretty much happening as we speak.

Orders have been placed (no deliveries yet) for about the same # of Marauder based pursuit units to be deployed at a donut shop near you

HQ approved test top speed 148mph.

Be warned be wise

I don't understand the need for high speed pursuit vehicles. These things will just escalate the incidence of high speed accidents during chases. Better to spend the money on the high tech communications and a helicopter.

I would say there is a need for Highway departments, but not for city / suburban departments. So for the latter, I agree they have no need and high speed vehicles will only cause more problems.

A state trooper may have to respond to a variety of situations from a long distance, such as an auto accident or to back up their partner. So speed is important for them.

I bet most cops will never drive those cars that fast, but it's a good idea to have that capability available, so long as it's not too much more expensive. I was wondering when they were going to get DOHC cop cars, since the SOHC ones are such dogs.
