I have a 99 continental and my car will not engage into any gear. as i was driving i thought i hit the shifter into neatral but i didnt. The car just reved as i slowly came to a stop. the car will no longer ingage into any gear, D,R, anything. i will go into park and the reverse lights go on but it is acting like the car is in "N" and will not engage into any gear. i love this car and the tranny has been PERFECT, not ever slipping and always went right into gear no matter how cold or hot the temp was. I have pleanty of fluid in the tranny and this is killing me. i had the car towed to the dealer and they already are talking about replacing the tranny. I know the tranny is good, but what could this be?

Your first mistake was taking it to a dealer. 
They aren't bad people but it's fairly typical for them to just replace whole assemblies such as a transmission rather then troubleshoot down to the component level. If you know someone that can recommend a local transmission shop (usually non-franchise) they may be able to help you.

They are trained to replace to "FACTORY" not fix the problems.Your first mistake was taking it to a dealer.

I still poke around here sometimes....when my 230k Cougar takes a dump which sadly may be sooner rather then later (rust and quite a bit of oil burning....not sure if it is worth fixing) I'll either be back in a Mark or a late model LS unless I'm really lucky and get a MKS but I doubt it.
Anywho, so I don't thread hijack, any update on your tranny issues?

I would take it to a transmission shop for the reasons stated above. The dealer will want to replace it with a Ford expensive tranny. A transmission shop will have the ability to troubleshoot, replace the bad part (if you're lucky) but they can rebuild it.
You're looking at $1800 or so for a rebuild. You may get a shop that's a little slow and get a better deal.
You don't suppose he could have damaged the MLPS, do you?
