I've done it several times in a driveway on jack stands, what would you like to know?

Preparation is always the most important part of any project I was wondering how you made enough clearance for removal did you lift the front or back of the car or both. The other question is did you need jack stands with extra height.

I used regular jackstands that were up about 4 clicks(i would do more if i did this again) all 4 corners of the car were off the ground because you have to work im the back too to get the driveshaft out. I lowered the tranny then pushed it off the jack and slid it out. Once you get the exhaust off its really not too hard of a job, cooler lines can be a pain so i would soak them as soon as you can.

I have 22" Jack stands, two placed under the front part of the K member and the other two under the the forward port of the rear subframe pads where it attaches to the body.

Stock up on some good extensions.

Things are slowly coming back to me about doing this
1. When doing the torque converter nuts theres a little access hole on the drivers side mid level (think of where the starter would go if it was on the other side) makes it alot quicker
2. You can get by with only the bottom 2 starter bolts on reinstallation as long as theyre on there good and you check them every now and then
3. Dont use 12-point sockets unless thats what the bolt is. I stripped one on the tranny and had to cut it out
4. Again be careful with the dipstick tube, you dont want this bolt snapping
5. Drain the pan a little whenever you can... this was a bad one for me....
6. Ratcheting wrenches make the top 2 bolts easy
7. Make sure the torque converter is seated properly before you cram it back in otherwise youll blow out the front seal

I removed the front u-joint and rotated it off the driveshaft to ease removal. Granted, I had a lift, but removing a tranny is the same if you're standing under the car or laying under it.
The EGR tube MUST be out of the way...I dont know why but 2 of the 5 trannies I've removed, the EGR tube was in the way.

I like the advice of removing that funky rubber plug from the driver's side of the engine to access the TC bolts.
cooler lines first
MLPS/harness
exhaust
bell housing bolts.
floor jack with cup removed and make a home-made tranny pan holder
take yo dang time
