Underdrive pulleys

Does anyone know if UD pulleys from a crown vic will work?

We have a spare set and im wondering i should put them on?

Would there be a more noticable gain if i put an electric water pump and 3.8 belt ac bypass?

Call me a skeptic, but I suspect the only place you'll notice a gain from pulleys is on the track, or dyno.

Since the ultimate goal is to eliminate load from the engine, I have to assume you'd get more power back (as a percentage) by going with your electric pump + AC bypass idea, than you would the UD pulleys.

However, you seem consistently unopposed to slapping a wrench on your ride when it needs it. You may as well see if those pulleys bolt up and see what happens. That's the less "invasive" of the two mods, and it only costs you time.. :) If you've got better ways to spend your time though, do that instead..

yes electric water pump will show more gain.

i have enough idle charging issues as is, i dare not underdrive the alternator even more.

A 93, i was gonna skip the alternator one, with the vic it doesnt have enough to keep the lights on at idle.

As little time as i have in my life it seems to be used on this car, i plan on keeping it a good long time. From what i read this would make the low end feel alot better

I had an 05 crown Victoria and was able to use the under drive pullies from a 4.6 GT if I recall correctly. Two concerns I have with this.

1. The crown Victoria was a police interceptor model and started to have charging issues after installing the pullies. Turned out these was a few shorts and the under driven alternator exacerbated the current draw.

2. The crown vic had a larger radiator than the mark viii and ran hotter since the water pump wasn't spinning as fast. No problem as I only drove it highway but if your driving in a city it could be a problem.

With that said, the throttle response was noticeably crisper, gained 1-2mpg highway AND the steering firmed up a bit (as the power steering pump turns slower as well).

The A/C condenser has a clutch in it that only engages with the A/C or defogger on. When not on it doesn't draw any more power off the engine than an idler pulley.

An electric water pump would help with the flow problem, i like mechanical compared to electrical normally but this might work.
I know about the ac clutch but im talking about completely bypassing it with a shorter belt
