I dunno... I still think an X pipe is basically BS...

why would it matter where in the system the x pipe is placed?

It's not BS, get either an X-Pipe or a Magnaflow muffler with a built-in cross-over, it works.

As far as placement, one exhaust that Ford produced for the FR500 road race Cobra had the cross-over in the back, just before the rear mufflers, so it probably doesn't matter.

I guess I'm thinking of vacuum differently. As in the was air is pulled into the engine via the intake/vacuum hoses. If air/exhaust was pulled into the engine via the exhaust ports, it wouldn't be able to suck air into the intake, therefore not being able to run (or it would run backwards).
