I race a '90 lx coupe, but took the LSC to ennis in texas today just to see what she'd do. Its a 97, BONE STOCK, 80,000 miles, full tank of gas and race weight was 4055. I shifted in manually, TC was off, and I rolled into the throttle.

2.3 60'
10.00 1/8
15.3 @ 92

With a lil more track time i could get it to a 14.8 or so with a 2.0 or even 1.9 60'.

Thats a pretty decent time. Do they run at night in Ennis at all I work 7 days a week so I a stuck on the 8th at north star in denton. they run at night when i am free from work. Lets get a day when I can make it out there and we can have a good ol' Texas Shoot Out gen1 vs gen2 stock for stock. I am in lewisville.

15.3 Is exactly what my stock 97 ran. I did a full tune-up last weekend and im sure I can break a 14.9 . NOS and Chip/Exhaust is coming very soon.

You won't get a 1.9 or 2.0 in the 60ft... the best a stock mark 8 can do is like 2.1 and that is a maybe. usually a 2.2 is a really good launch on a stock mark.

Your times are in line... you may want to look at that MPH though... needs to be around 95 or so to be in the 14s... you seem to be down on power.

Run with a 1/4 tank gas, remove spare and jack from the trunk. You should easily drop a tenth just by doing that. The best 60 foot time you will get by rolling into the throttle is a 2.2.

they started at 12 and ran til 5:30 or so. they will run later as the year goes on.

those factory 3.27's are great for the highway but suck big time at the track LOL, the car never got out of 2nd gear

yea i know what ya mean i don't even have that base mark viii 3.08 the was doesn't close until 7pm

The best rolling 60' that I was ever able to accomplish after two years of trying was a 2.2, for what that is worth.

15.3 was the fastest my stock 97 ever ran. It usually ran at 15.5 on average. I dont think with just more practice you will be able to take 0.5 off your 1/4 mile. You will need to throw some parts at it first.

Gears are the way to go. I went with 4.10's and my best time so far is 14.6

Huh? The Blue Flame's maiden voyage down the track was with only 4.10s, cat-back exhaust and a LMS chip - it only netted a 14.5 at 96 mph.

driver mod will help a lot. if i cut a 15.3 the first time i ran teh mark ever at a strip, i can bet money i can get at least .3 knocked off it. not being cocky, but knowing how to launch that car is important. the air pressure was at stock psi, i had a full tank of gas and tons of stuff in the car......

14.6 Is a stock number,LSC or not - If you have 4.10's and your only running 14.6 - Id say you have something goin on.

I am not familiar with any stock Mark that could lay down a 14.6. A 14.8 is an astounding time, with 15.0+ being the average. A 14.6 with 4.10s on a Gen II sounds just about correct to me.

There are several members here that have %100 completely stock mark viii's and run the notorious 14.6 number. I think its usually for the 93's .

I've done exhaust, J-mod, chip, and gears and that took nearly a second off my average time. Thats pretty good if you ask me. I could get another 2-3 tenths off if I took everything out of the trunk and had less gas in the car.

Thats pretty much right on par for a gen 2 with those mods. A gen 2 (97-98) that runs in the 14's bone stock is almost un-heard of. A 15.3 is just about right for a 97 with no mods. I dont think you could change a lot just by getting more practice. Read what Devin said 2 posts up.

My 1998 Mark VIII with a chip, 3.73s trac-lock, ran a best time of 14.99 @93.

Granted my car wasn't shifting right due to a loose chip connection that I only discovered later but yea... these cars take a lot of work to run fast.

My stock 94's Best 60' is 2.2882 which was my fastest run. that 60ft is where you need to gain for sure. i have had higher mph but lower et and lower 60ft. i really need to get a 1/4 mile time

I'd say based on your 9.84 pass in the 1/8th that your 1/4 mile et would be somewhere between 15.0-15.05 so long as you aren't running with a weak fuel pump that will "lay down" on the big end.

Run it over to ennis and down the 1/4, I'm very interested in seeing if my prediction is "in the ball park".
