1st pass (in the mark)

i thought since the car had a 6000 rpm redline, it would still shut off as a fuel shutoff. it doesnt. shifting the car manually i took the car to 7k in 1st gear and 2nd it went to 6500. we've owned the car since new. stock computer with NO CHIP, never been messed with. Thats all I know.

Keeping in mind that there can easily be 500-1000 RPM error in the stock tach.

87-93 fox bodies were known to have up to 1500RPM error in the stock tach, which is why almost 100% of the fox bodies have that god awful huge aftermarket tach.

The stock Mark VIII tach is pretty accurate. I have datalogged both my 96 and 98 and it's right on the money. If you can manually shift it to 7000 you have a chip.

To check the stall speed, put your foot on the brake and bring up the rpms, once the tires start to spin and burn out that point is where your stall is.

I've been told to manually put the car in second gear to do that. You'll get a more realistic value that way, but remember the tach may be off 500 rpms or more, so it may not be really useful.

My very first time at the track (with any car) with my stock mark viii, out of three runs the best i got was a 15.086 @ 96.65 mph, the other runs were 15.1xx 95-96 mph on a warm august night.

I wonder of it being obd2 has anything to do with it?

previous eec iv cars had very VERY bad tachs, and how it was explained to me was it was the "clock speed" of the processor that caused the problems in the high RPM's..

because the processor would be so busy taking car of engine management important stuff it would "lag on" displaying the "unimportant stuff" like the tach display to the driver.

Since 97-93 fox bodies have this issue it makes sense that the same era EEC IV processor would show the same symptoms.. but.. as always I could be wrong.

I wonder if the mark 8 didn't have a later generation of EEC IV than the fox bodies.

In my Pro Racer Software for my eec 4 car I have a set of "obd2" scalars, which struck me as "odd".. but they are there none the less.

Agree'd in second gear you will get a more accurate depiction of what your actual stall speed is.

In first gear the trans gear ratio will multipy the torque and will make the tires spin before you reach the actual stall speed.

Do it in second gear.

The best way to do it is to idle your engine, feather your prop, nose up to 30 degrees and hold it until one wing dips. That'll be your stall speed.

Exactly, see? The moment that Bitchin' Betty starts harshing you about stall warnings, take a moment to write down your KIAS before punching out, then you'll know for sure.

This is a time slip from Sacto raceway, several years ago. Max was there, Serge was there, Stanley filmed it, so...I think it is a very good comparison between stock gen 1 and gen 2

LEFT LANE...................................
me, stock 94 w/JMOD , 3/4 tank fuel
heat soaked motor, raced in DRIVE, and a trunk full of junk + heavier coil conversion. I probably had a good 200 lbs more weight than Todd.

Right Lane.............
Todd Dixon, stock 97 LSC w/Reinhart chip, JMOD, 1/4 tank fuel, cool engine, and RIGHT LANE!(better lane at sac...ask coldasice!)

I remember this race as if it was yesterday...I got him at the tree, he threw a nose out there for a brief instant, and ten my 94 just flat out ran him...the numbers dont lie.

Hey Tommy...notice those R/T's?...I tried to "tree" him...he actually cut a killer light!
