2nd gen power steering pump removal help

For future reference...you can get that pressure hose off with a short 18MM wrench, you can't fit a crows foot on it.

Here's how I hung the engine.

I used a chain fall hanging from the ceiling when I did mine. I actually picked up the same tool you used to hang the engine at a closed dealership auction a few weeks back. I'm going to need it when replacing the oil pan in the spring. My current garage won't accommodate a chain fall......well not safely anyway.

That's a good tool to have. I borrowed mine from the transmission shop, they used it daily pulling FWD transmissions out.

So, did you get it all taken care of?

Not yet, it went down to like 30 degrees the other day. (haha i know, get out there ya sissy and get her done). The car is inside the shop and out of the way, so i figure the next warm spell were going to have this weekend ill get her wrapped up again and time for bye bye. Auctioning it off. haha Freebie new fluids changed for the new owner.

All done.

All done. Weather was nice today Saturday, was like 50 degrees out. It was easy once you had the right socket/tools. Those wobble sockets are 49.00 per set at SEARS. I got a Metric and Standard set. Thanks for putting up the pics guys. Helped a bunch having to feel where the last bolt was.

Still havent figured out what the dealer uses to remove the 17MM flarenut on the high pressure line to the pwersteering pump. Looks like you can use an open end 17MM bent at 45 degrees then back to straight to get that joker off and tightened up again. The crows feet socket strips i bought were actually flare nut ends and you really need the smooth open end corws feet, so they just slip on there easier. The pulley is too close to make use of the flarenut crows feet set i bought. But its all done and no more leaky. To the car wash with some simple green now to clean under there up.

Sweet, good work. Like I mentioned before, I was able to get a stubby 18 mm (17?) wrench onto that flare nut, it was literally 1/8 turns but still.

I cut the end off of an old SAE open end wrench (to make it like a very short open end wrench) and ground it down to a tight metric size to fit. Then I used a drift and hammer to tap it to loosen or tighten it.

spent some cash on new tools

Got a set of the craftsman wobble sockets and standard wobble sockets, and stubby metric ratchet combo wrenches to install the new high pressure steering line. It was leaky at the fitting so i got the entire length of the line for it. They will work perfect when i get under there again. It is 17MM flare nut for the fitting by the way.
