3.73 gears?

Oops!

You don't even know what parts you need, how do you think you're going to do the install?

A number of specialized tools are required as well as the knowledge and experience that you don't have. :p
Ii am finding out what parts I need then I will figure out how to put it together, which I'm sure I could find out here, right? I mean none of this is rocket science. I've accomplished a lot tougher things in life, I imagine I can do this. Alittle anger involved, of course :D

i call it research.

but can get if you have the planning, time, patience, and cash.
i did mine myself.
ecaxtly!

LoL at DLF. :p
Shut up jerk, I know why you are laughing, I probably would get mad lol but it'd still be fun

question about gears. ive heard that they put a lot more strain on your tranny? i wanted gears, but no way am i gonna risk a tranny going, the car will sit for years lmao. only way i would do it is if the car has a rebuilt or new tranny, and possibly a j-mod. 3.73's would add a nice little kick i think. but like i said, just curious as to what i heard was true about gears putting more strain on your tranny. thanks

JMOD it, tune it, and rock it. I would not rebuild OR get a new transmission just to run a set of gears. My concerns with my mods have always been things such as u-joints, the tailshaft bushing, axle-bearings, and of course my tires, but I still burn through them faster than any of the clutch packs in my transmission. :p

Well, best of luck, it'll sure be a learning experience.

Do you have a press? A bearing puller? A case spreader? A dial indicator? Both Lb-Ft and Lb-In torque wrenches? A micrometer set? A way to check/set the pinion depth?

There's a lot more to it than you probably think.

If you have the tools (and the patience ;)), then I'm sure that you could learn how to do it. If not, let someone else do the install.

As for the parts, to do it right, you'll need the following:

Ring and pinion set - M-4209-F373N
An IRS Traction-Lok differential - M-4204-F288
A R&P installation kit, which includes new bearings and races - M-4210-B
Side bearings and seals - M-4413-A
Along with a couple of quarts of good 75W90 gear oil and some Ford friction modifier - M-19546-A1

If you want to bring your pumpkin and the parts down here, I'd be happy to show you how it's done, for a small fee. :D

Also, check your half shaft threads and nut. Since you live in NY the threads may be rusted away which could require replacing the half shafts. Sometimes if there is too much rust you either destroy the threads removing the nut or you have to cut the half shafts off because the nut if rusted into a nub.

Also, might as well get a better drive shaft or buy a used 93 1 piece and get it euilt & balanced. The pumpkin will be out so it will be the optimal time to do this.

A couple of pics of what he's talking about. These were actually usable, some are not. This car spent most of it's life in NYC, now it's in Boston.
