Bad luck

Damn tough way to "wake up" for the rest of the ride home.....

I was 'wide awake in dreamland'. :D

While I could've easily went to sleep around midnight, I caught my second wind about 2am and remarkably felt fine driving back although I was prepared to catch a nap at a rest area should the need arise. But the 'new ride', some tunes and lots of coffee kept me from getting sleepy.

I have a mortal fear of falling asleep while driving and I am usually able to recognize the drowsiness and find a place to take a nap. Most of the time, an hour or so of shuteye will be enough to get back on the road.

Gee, I really appreciate everyone's well wishes. :)

Well, the car met the adjuster today. Long story short, it's totaled. The adjuster's estimate was $5700.

Someone from their loss department will be contacting me next week for a settlement.

I'm shell shocked. :(

 strip out the new parts first before they take it.

Age does that.....sorry.... but it may work out to your advantage if you are good at body work...or know someone that is. Call Jaimie for parts.

. . . and you went to so much trouble to get that particular car :(

This sounds like you may be having one of those "Detroit Style Parts Parties", although maybe the right body guy might be a way of saving it. Hope it all works out for you.

Update....

I got an estimate for just labor and paint with me supplying the parts.

All parts but mirror found, some I had in storage. Jamie is shipping a header panel and fender. I'll be picking up a hood this coming weekend. It will be going to a local custom shop for the R&R work and paint. Time is of the essence and I hope to have it for Carlisle and the HRPT.

I have to supply documentation to the insurance company, including customizations recently installed. Looks like it may not be totaled afterall once all is said and done.

Wish me luck! :)

Well, i hope they write you the check

LOL, me too.

I decided to take charge of the situation.

I called one shop of choice and they basically snubbed me. I asked for a estimate and once they found out it was an insurance claim, they had no interest in giving 'a second opinion'. Apparently, most collision shops are hopeless patsies for the insurance companies and will not work directly with the customer.

The shop I'm using does a lot of custom work for the local gearheads and had no problem with me supplying parts and them doing the labor and paint. He searched locally for parts but came up empty handed.

Their estimate includes replacing the drivers side door handle with the new one I have and painting the rear bumper. The bumper has been needing painted since I got the car and the door handle has been broken since last year.

Once it's all said and done, I will be looking for 'classic' car insurance for both the Mark VIIIs.
