Brake performance

Thanks, but I read up on the yellowstuffs and was really looking for those for the fronts.

If they say they fit a cougar of t bird won't they fit a mark?

Mine is a '98 btw.

are there redstuffs for the rear?

No redstuff or yellowstuff for the rear.

The rears don't do much breaking, so EBC suggests using greenstuff on the rear where red or yellow is not available. Just make sure the "stronger" colors are always on the front.

In case anyone is wondering, performance (and cost and dust) increases in this order:

Ultimax
Green
Red
Yellow

I put yellowstuff on my dad's minivan because the braking was so bad - I refused to let his 2 year old grandson ride around in it. I installed yellowstuff for his birthday and he is elated. Braking is on par with import models now.

From what I was reading regarding different EBC pads, the yellows are also likely to eat up your rotors quicker as well. My cup of tea is definitely redstuff for any automatic car over 3200 lbs that may be braking heavily and repeatedly....like I do whenever I get onto the twisty mountain roads here. 150 corners in 12 miles with about a mile's worth (gross) of elevation change? HELL yes. :D

Yes, good observation. In fact, my $30 Autozone specials warped within 1000 miles after putting Greenstuff on.

I would highly recommend a rotor upgrade if using any EBC pad. I ended up getting a pair of frozen rotors for around $200...they haven't warped at all in over 20k miles.

At the very least, if keeping the rotors, be sure to have them turned or resurfaced.

We put performance friction and hawk pads on the crown vic lemons car and it stopped awesome. Great feel, no fade, no noise (not that i'd have heard the brakes over the rest of the noise anyway).

I really wouldn't bother with a big brake kit. Pull your ABS fuse and stomp on the brakes. If it won't lock them, time for bigger ones.

For street use, stock brakes, good pads, bleed the brakes and run a decent DOT 4 fluid, and forget about it. Even on a modified car. Unless you're doing track days, don't bother with big ones. Only other reason for bigger brakes is the bling factor behind some oversized wheels.

+1...with my frozen rotors and Greenstuff pads, I'll bet I stop just as well as a big brake kit with the average pad and rotor.

I agree Sleeper, when you look at the size of the stock calipers there is alot there. I have no problems running with the Bendix Rotors with Ceramix pads, Super Blue Brake fluid, and have painted my rotors aluminum color.. But then again I only stop to get fuel. LOL

My 2 cents...

Since the '96 has the up-sized Cobra brake setup on the front and the '93 does not, I have found myself wanting the same brake package on the '93. There is a significant increase in brake performance with the Cobra brakes on the FN10 platform in my opinion.

It is most evident at the track but still very perceptible on the street as well.

Bigger is better! LOL :D

And they are pretty and red.

Mark VIII brakes are pathetic. The cobra upgrade adds quite a bit to the braking performance. Esp if you do front and back.

Ooppps, forgot that! :D

I plan both front and rear on the '93. DLF has all my stuff ready to go, I just need to make arrangements to Git-R-Dun. ;)

Hell, I probably won't even be able to find your stuff anymore. :rolleyes:

If you really want brakes, Brembos make Cobra brakes seem anemic. :D

On my SC, I went from stock, to Cobra, to Brembo. Each time the improvement was dramatic.

On my Cobra, I had trouble stopping the thing until I installed Brembos.

So the LSC hit the road with Brembos.

Do both your Marks have similar brake pads? If they do, then obviously bigger is better.

I was talking about a car with stock calipers, great rotors, and greats pads, versus a car with upgraded calipers, stock material pads, and stock material rotors. I'll bet performance between these two cars is very close to the same.

The '93 has better rotors and pads over stock and they are an improvement over stock, but still a significant step behind the Cobra setup like on the '96.

Brembos would be killer for sure, but likely overkill on a stock daily driver. If mine were a daily driver, I would opt for the better Motorcraft rotors and the cheap organic pads.

+1 on the Brembos :) One of the best mods done to my Mark!

autoanything.com has all four colors of pads, but you would need to look them up by part number rather than vehicle model...they only list the first four pads below for Mark VIII's...not sure why.

DP21164 EBC Greenstuff Street Sport; Disc Pads; Rear;
DP21168 EBC Greenstuff Street Sport; Disc Pads; Front;
UD598 EBC Ultimax Pad Set; Disc Pads; Front;
UD599 EBC Ultimax Pad Set; Disc Pads; Rear;
DP41166R EBC High Friction (yellowstuff) Upgrade And Race; Disc Pads; Front;
DP31166C EBC Redstuff Low Dust Superstreet; Disc Pads; Front;

So I ordered the Yellowstuffs DP4116R from auto anything and this is what I got:

Couldn't help but notice how these look nothing like the pads listed on auto part sites such as http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_ThermoQuiet&174;-Brake-Pad-Set-Wagner_20609000-P_219_R|GRPBRCOAMS_758514046___

I's say the EBC's I got are for like an early 80's Mustang.

I am now considering the KVR pads from SCP, anyone have experience with those?

You're right, they sent you the wrong stuff. You typed in DP4116R - should be DP41166R...was that just a typo? What part numbers are on the pads/box?

Here's an EBC cross reference that shows that part numbers:

http://www.buybrakes.com/ebc/pad-apps-Lincoln.html

There is indeed no listing for red or yellow stuff under Mark VIII, however if you look under Lincoln Continental, you'll see that they use exactly the same green part number as the Mark VIII. We can logically conclude that the red and yellow stuff for the Conti's will fit Mark VIII's as well. I guess it's not totally bulletproof, but I would have easily given them a shot. My dad has the yellow stuff on his Dodge mini-van, and they worked wonders over the OEM pads.

Yes sorry that was a typo.

Part numbers on pads and box are correct DP41166R...

But the Greenstuffs for the Continental http://www.buybrakes.com/store/EBC-UD598 look like the ones from the part stores.

However the Red and Yellowstuffs listed on that sheet are identical to the DP41166R's that I just got in the outline shown on the parts sheet. As a matter of fact DP41166R is the Yellowstuff part number listed for the Continental. (Based on the cross reference sheet you provided).
