The way I understood it, you want a leaner mixture the higher the compression ratio. Am I wrong?

from everything i know, yeah. if anything you would prob want a richer condition becuase the cyclinder pressure would be higher.
 
You can't be 100% positive of this. Piston/cylinder scoring, partial ring failure, worn bearings, etc. can not be "felt" or noticed upon regular driving. The only way to know you didn't have damage is to tear down the engine and visually inspect. Even stock cars have "damage present" and they just continue to wear down and wear down until something fails. What you did just sped up that process.

+ 1..that's exactly what I was saying above..

the damage was probably more of a "cumulative nature" rather than a sudden catastropic nature.
Nitrous will seek out and exploint ANY weak link in your fuel or ignition or combustion system.

coupled with the very short distance to the first ring land on our pistons.. that just exasperates the issue
