RE: Friday Night 10-13-06

14 cars showed up for the Street Stock Points Race
4 were mark 8's!!!

Time Trials
1st pass

Douglas ---- Spain
.0051---RT---.0700
2.28----60----2.24
6.34---330---6.40
9.60---1/8---9.71

12.43--1000--12.53
14.82--1/4--14.90
94.26--MPH--95.54
MOV Left Lane .1399

2nd pass (round robin 6 minutes later)
Spain ---- Douglas
.0328---RT---.0170
2.29----60----2.29
6.46---330---6.44
9.78---1/8---9.75
74.34--MPH--75.14
12.61--1000--12.58
14.98--1/4--14.99
95.54--MPH--93.89
MOV right lane .0120 (OH SO CLOSE)

3rd Pass {6 minutes before eliminations)
Spain ---- Douglas
.0444---RT--- -.0263 RED
2.23----60----2.19*
6.37---330---6.23* (spun hard on 1-2 shift)
9.67---1/8---9.47
74.78--MPH--76.40

car ran a 9.60, back to back 9.75 and a 9.47 with an hour cool down.
I put a 9.60 on the car, because I knew I wouldn't get enough cool down to run that .47 again.

With 4 of 14 cars being Mark 8's, what are the chances that I would have to race one of them in round 1.
As luck would have it, I got paired up with David Roadarmel in his Mark 8.
I hate it when they pair Lincoln vs Lincoln.. but atleast ONE of us will make it to ROUND 2!!!

Round 1
Roadamel ---- Douglas
9.40---Dial---9.60
.1531---RT---.1068 (ZZZZZZ, some one WAKE ME UP!)
2.24----60----2.26
6.17---330---6.32
9.34---1/8---9.5910
77.16--MPH--75.90
MOV Right Lane .0006
.-0559-off dial .-009 Double Breakout, WIN RIGHT LANE!!

Tiffany Lost round 1 and I had to race David in round 1 so two of the Mark 8's are out of the show, leaving myself and Glen Snedden the two remaining Mark 8's out of 7 cars left in the field.

AS luck would have it.. They paired Glen and ME in round 2! {crap}
Since I ran a 9.591 on the previous pass, I decided to leave the 9.60 on the car and "let it ride".

Snedden ---- Douglas
10.30--Dial--9.60
.3038---RT---.1816
2.25----60----2.75 *car bogged on the hit???WTF??*
6.57---330---7.13 *???*
10.199--1/8--10.476
66.65--MPH--74.75
MOV .8546 Left Lane
.-1002 off dial --.8766 (shakes head)
Breakout Left Lane

My car bogged on the hit, something it hasn't done since I began to run at the dragstrip {6 years)
Car stumbled, coughed then cleared out and "got into the power".

I knew I was STEW, I watched as Glen cruised away from me to an EASY VICTORY.

I was actually happy that finally Glen was going to "take Tom out"!
I watched in anticipation as Glen beat me to the finish line by 8 1/2 car lengths..
I'd already resigned myself to spectator status.

Glen crossed the line.. NO WIN LIGHT.

.3 seconds later I reach the finish line and BOOM, the Win Light shines brightly in MY LANE..

Glen had thrown it away at the stripe, never lifted, and didn't brake. WTF GLEN!!!????

So I get to the semi final round, not feeling very confident because of the "unexplained bog" on the last pass.
We're down to 4 cars, my opponent drew the bye run in the last round, so he's "all set" with a free time trial into the semi finals.

I'm very nervous about my dial in so I left the 9.60 on the car and went to the lanes.

Dunlap ---- Douglas
7.01--Dial--9.60
.1701---RT---.0482 (tree'd the crap out of him!)
1.71----60----2.23 ( no bog, it's a RACE!)
4.59---330---6.28
7.051---1/8---9.583 (stabbed the brake twice,but needed 3!)
99.34--MPH--72.71
MOV Right Lane .1801
.0412--off dial--.-0170
Winner----------Breakout

The last race of the season is next week, I'm considering sitting it out for 2 reasons.
1. He cant catch me
2. my car is spinning voilently on the 1-2 shift, spinning so bag I almost ran into tiffs car durning time trials, and almost hit the wall on another pass...

I need:
1-2 upgrade
diff bushings
rear shocks
drag radials

Semi Final round I lost, but so did the guy in Second Place in points.
By winning round 1, I had made it mathamatically impossible for 2nd place to catch/pass 1st place in points for the 2006 season
BACK TO BACK STREET STOCK CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!
*huge grin*

The 1-2 upgrade and DRs will help the most IMHO. I noted a big difference in my consistency with a shift kit and drag radials.

BTW, I still am in need of rear shocks and rear control arm bushings. ;)

Congrats on another fine showing and a wonderfully written synopsis. :)

Friday Night 10-20.2006!!

Friday Night 10-20.2006!!

Friday Night - Race Recap

After replacing my battery trying to solve a "bog on launch" situation, I returnd to LSMP for Friday Night Street Stock.

First time trial after a lengthy oil down/ clean up
RT----.0492
60----3.5604 {bogmonster reared it's ugly head again!!!)
330'--8.39
1/8 --12.16xo xo xo xo
MPH--64.21

I guess the battery wasn't the problem, even though the car ran and started ALOT better.
Symptoms are alot like a "bad connection with the chip".
So I crawled under the dash and yanked the chip out of the PCM.

2nd Time Trial

RT----.0488
60'---2.18  (BOGMONSTER IS SLAIN AND LEFT AT THE STARTING LINE)
330---6.13
1/8---9.34 (9.47 was previous best with new combo)
MPH---77.02

Feeling A LITTLE better because the car didn't BOG on the hit, nor try to crash into the wall on the 1-2 shift. Car went straight and felt like it was making good power!
Since the 9.34 was my fastest pass with the new combo, I just wrote that number on the window and nervously headed for the lanes for Round 1

Round 1
Douglas------Watts
9.34---Dial----9.28
.0157---RT-----.3790 (tree'd the crap out of the mustang!)
2.19----60-----2.18
6.15----330----6.14
9.6500--1/8--9.3747
56.71---MPH---76.73
MOV LEFT LANE---.1480 (hit the brakes hard with my 56 MPH)
.3100--offdial--.0947
With nearly .3 advantage on the tree, I ran hard to the other end and dropped the anchor and still crossed the finish line almost 2 car lengths ahead of the mustang. I compared the other run to this one, comparing the 330' times, this pass was .02 slower than my 9.34 run.
Had I ran it out, it would have been a 9.36 on a 9.34 dial in!

ON TO ROUND 2!
Since I had only ran .02 off on my last pass I decided to let the 9.34 ride!
Harris------Douglas (Mark VIII vs Mark VIII}
9.80---Dial----9.34
-.5000---RT---.1226 (Opponent Rolled thru the beams, and redlit!)
8.488----60----2.17
13.14----330----6.15
16.63----1/8--9.3750
71.45---MPH---76.70
MOV RIGHT LANE---5.172(ran it flat out, he'd redlit)
6.83--offdial--.0350

Round 2 netted a better 60' ET was .03 slower than my dial in.
.03 is too much to "give away" so I bumped my dial in from a .34 to a .35 and proceeded to round 3!!!

Round 3
Douglas------Barnes (Mark VIII vs Lightning Pick up)
9.35---Dial----7.99
.153---RT-----.179 (Zzzzzzzon the treee!!)
2.23----60-----1.70 ( I spun!)
6.26----330----5.11
9.498--1/8--7.9839
77.84---MPH---84.55
MOV RIGHT LANE---.1295 (I tree'd him, but he passed me.. BAD BAD!)
.1488--offdial--..0061 He broke out by the slimmest of margins, and he took the stripe with PLENTY of room to hit the brakes.
He goes to the pits, I go to the FINAL ROUND!!!

Since I had spun a bit on the hit, and we were brought right back to the lanes, I knew I needed to MOVE MY DIAL, and MOVE IT ALOT!
I'd just ran a 9.49, so I put a 9.48 on the window and went to the final round.
The #2 guy in points in street stock was my opponent in the final round.
FINAL ROUND
Koehler------Douglas
7.70---Dial----9.48
.0523---RT-----.0121 (tree'd the crap out of the Camaro!!!!)
1.69----60-----2.20
4.90----330----6.20
7.665---1/8---9.474
83.27---MPH---72.80
MOV RIGHT LANE---.0112
.-3100 offdial .-0947
Double Breakout!
I dabbed the brakes and crossed the stripe first by .0112, but broke out by .0947 and he broke out by .3100
WIN LIGHT LINCOLN LANE!!!!!!

Two weeks ago, I won.
The following week I lost in the semi's
This week, I WON!
*grins a proud smile*

Tiffany waded her way THRU the Jackpot Race and put a Second Mark VIII in the Winners Circle!!!!!

Texas A&M Sports Car Club had returned to LSMP for their Car Club Race, and ONCE AGAIN. Stacie in the SLEEK BLACK Second Gen Mark VIII waded thru her rounds to put a 3rd Mark VIII in the winners circle!!!

ALL 3 races, ALL WON by Lincoln Mark VIII's!!!!

Sunday 10-22-2006!!

Sunday 10-22-2006!!

We went back out to the track on Sunday, because I wanted to make double sure that the chip was indeed the culprit.

I got up Sunday and put the chip back in the car, when I started it.. it missed, sputtered and tried to die.
So without further hesitation I PULLED it back out!

Sunday was a 1/4 mile event.

First time trial with about a 20 minute cool down
RT---.0082
60---2.18 (NO BOG)
330--6.21 (spun a bit on the 1-2)
1/8--9.47 (right where it left off on friday night!}
1000-12.27
1/4--14.650
MPH--95.64

Feeling confident I went back to the lanes for my "back to back" pass
RT---.1124 (ZZzzzzz)
60---2.14
330--6.09
1/8--9.27 (best 60 foot and 1/8th time with new combo)
1000-12.02 (.2 quicker than the last pass)
1/4--14.345
MPH--97.53

After I made my second pass, we had a quite long delay because of another event running alongside the 1/4 mile Street Stock Race.
Since I ran my quickest pass, after another pass, I didn't want to run the car "COLD" and have it "slow down".
SO I asked Tiffany if she wanted to go make a pass in my car and get some heat in it for me.

She said, wont that screw up your numbers?
I said, well.. my quickest pass was a "round robin pass".
She shrugged and grabbed the keys and headed to the lanes.

Tiffany in Tom's Car AKA "Tiffany MOD!"
RT -.0293{she hasn't driven my car at the track since the motor swap}
60'--2.15
330--5.986  WTF?
1/8--9.0991 :eek::eek::eek:
1000-11.781
1/4--14.061
MPH--99.62 (HOLY SMOKES)

Dumbfounded I stared at the score boards, then looked to the other score board to make sure I wasn't looking at the WRONG ONE!

My best ET was 14.34 and with the TIFFANY MOD my car just went.. 14.06 RIGHT BEFORE MY EYES!!!
HOLY SMOKES!
Thanks TIFF!!!
HAHA

That Tiffany mod is something else!

14.34 - 14.06 = 0.28 seconds

Since rule of thumb is 100 lbs = 0.1 seconds...

you, my friend, need to go on a diet! :+

Funny the TCCOA guys predicted by using this data that I must weigh 300-500 LBS!!!!

yesterday I weighed 196, meaning there is roughy 85LBS between myself and tiffs weight

I talked to a Mach 1 guy friday night, he said "in his car" 85LBS =.1

He is a "mod motor racer" and is very familiar with "adding ballast" to his car to make it run the desired ET.

Since in Mod motor, they take an average of your ET's, the drop .1 off it.. and THAT is your dial in.

So the mod motor guys add weight during qualifying, then remove said ballast once their ET is set. Most run "DEAD ON".
