Engine noises with vids, need advice please

What could you expect to pay to have someone do that? Maybe just the pass side. That seems to be where it is most common. Or would it be cheaper to replace the heads?

Honestly, the cheapest route for me was two swap in a used engine. (twice!) I picked up the first engine with 47k miles on it for 750 and the second one for 600. I did all the labor myself so that saved me the most amount of money. You can't just fix the passenger side because in order to remove the cams to get the lifters out, you need to remove the timing chains, which require the entire front of the engine to come off. The teardown labor alone would cost just as much as another engine.

I have been doing ALOT of reading today on noisey lifters - i have come to the conclusion that its just 'one of those things' Seems alot of high mileage cars (not just Ford) with hydraulic adjusters get noisey.

Also, just been out to investigate some more with stethoscope - started her up - several 'ticked' for a few seconds, then... nothing! Went for a drive... came back... all quiet. Must be intermittently sticky or something. Still, will try some 5W 20 soon.

Correct me if im wrong, but didn't Ford release a TSB or whatever recommending 5W 20 instead of the 5W 30?

I believe this was for a marginal fuel mileage increase.

Also, you might want to try auto RX. I haven't used it myself but I have read some very good results have been had with it. I t just might free up your lifters a bit.

Just another reason to put in a newer 4v.
I did get rid of the bird chirping in my car lol. New Navi waterpump and new belt tensioner.

Mine does that... TERRIBLE noise for 2-3 minutes first thing in the morning, then it abruptly goes away, and fine all day. I think my car is as old as I am, because that pretty much describes me getting out of bed each day too.

That noise you describe as terrible could be your timing chains rattling due to tensioner oil leak down - another very common thing. Heck, you probably have a combination of both noises! Lol. My chains rattle on initial start up - but they only do it for 3 seconds or so, then go quiet. Are you using the Motorcraft oil filter? - that apparently helps as it contains a good anti drain back valve. That, combined with a good oil may help your noise a little.

Now, if i leave my car for a week or more, i prime the system before starting using the 'WOT' trick. (hold gas pedal to floor while cranking for a few seconds, switch off, then restart as normal) - stops the timing chain rattle completely as the tensioners have 'pumped up'

Apparently there was a Ford fix for the chain tensioner issue, but im not sure of the details.

Well, I have to disagree although I never got to watch the OP videos.

I know the chain rattle, it does last 2-3 seconds and is similar...

Unfortuantely I have something else too. I don't care really about the chain rattling, it's always done that AFAIK

I have an ugly, terrfying WHAK WHAK WHAK coming from the top/rear of the engine.

It stops abruptly after a few minutes of warming up, not a few seconds like the chain rattle.

Hmmm....doesn't sound good. I'd suggest getting a stethascope from the autoparts store and do some listening around.
