Got some stuff back from my powdercoater

This is only the first set of stuff. Nothing too exciting yet, but more is on the way.

Crossover tube. This pic really doesn't do it justice, the finish is like glass.

Emission tray. I managed to get a rust-free one on ebay a while back, but the paint was a little rough. I almost don't want to put this on the car because it's literally a perfect 10 now. In the mean time I will use it as a dinner tray.

'03 Cobra exhaust manifolds (a.k.a. "Poor man's headers").
I went with a rather dull gray ceramic coat, I'd probably go with something brighter if I did it again, but these will do.

Gonna being doing something fancy with valve and coil covers, but need to do some work on them first.

Since the car's in storage for winter, I'm planning on stripping the engine of pretty much everything bolted on and replace or refinish.

I didn't know the cross over tube came apart...

everything looks pretty good... :D

I hate you. I'm going to ask the Kid to make mine all pink. We were looking at powdercoating a while back, I think he can do it, we just never had time. He has plenty of time right now.

wow, looks great, good idea to do the emission tray, i think mine is 1/2 gone by now

That stuff looks fantastic!

So if the emission tray even has surface rust, is it a lost cause? or can it be salvaged with a few hours, and a wire brush on a drill?

Lol...no don't bent that!...oh, it comes apart. :D

Is your guy cheap, how much did all that cost? It looks really good. :)

Those three items came out to $200, but the bulk of it was for the ceramic coating on the manifolds. I think the powder coat of the two other things came out to around $30. I don't have the receipt handy right now. I shopped around at a couple other places and he was lower or about the same as the others, but I mainly went with him because he's got a great reputation and loves to do really outrageous custom stuff. He showed me a nitrous bottle he had just done, polished the aluminum to a mirror finish and then put a yellow/green opalescent finish on it that made it look like it was a glass bottle (for a ricer of course). Here's his web site:

Tixer, if you're looking to powdercoat your tray, I wouldn't bother trying to clean it up yourself. I'm not sure how my guy does it exactly, but if I understand correctly, he puts the item in an oven and burns off the finish along with all the rust. He does do bead blasting but I don't think he did that to any of the parts. Anyway, they come out spotless, and he did say that he has to coat them ASAP after stripping if it's steel. If all you've got is surface rust, you should be good to go, but it'll probably be pitted from where the rust ate it away.

Here are the coil covers I'm gonna have him work his magic on:

It's a shame the passenger side is completely hidden, but what are you gonna do.

oh, wow. those are gorgeous!

and thanks for the info on the tray. maybe I'll pull that when I store the Mark this year.

Don't worry about the manifolds bling, you can't see them once they're on anyways. ;)

i just threw a pair of those cobra manifolds away, i didnt think anyone would ever use those are they any better than the marks manifolds?

Tixer...as MArk says just have your coater clean them. Almost all coaters also clean the parts. They dip, blast, grind, or what ever. They will know the best approach.

The cobra exhaust manifolds are supposed to flow better. They are going for at least $60 a set on Ebay. Some are selling them for as much as $180 a pair.

Unless you rip your fender off trying to fishtail into traffic.......bwahah! :p had to do it JP, sorry!

Real good Jamie, throw away money. :)

Jamie, are you sure they were the 03-04 specific manifolds with larger ports to match the design of the latter heads ? If they were 99-01 cobra or 5.4 dohc manifolds, those are different, and worth scrap ;)

Mark, you're on the roll with this stuff ;) I have an engine bay to pretty up as well over the winter. We'll start with a 5.0 stroker though lol.
