Help me choose my subs.

Which ones would you recommend?

2 12" Type R Alpines $250 shipped
2 12" Sonys $149 at the store
2 12" AW1206 Audiobahns $250 shipped.

I'm somewhat looking for a bang for the buck aspect here.
Thanks.
Amp reccomendations welcome.

RE: Help me choose my subs.

After further research i think i'm going to go with the sonys (or something with similar RMS power), since at 350 watts rms they are almoust 3 times as powerful as my current Kicker C10s. And i think anything over that would be complete overkill. The Audiobahns would require 2 monster amps to be run properly and would run well over $1000 if everything was done right. I think i'm going to keep it under 1000 watts rms since everything over that would be overkill for me. So i'm going to go with either 1 really good sub or 2 mediocre subs and a good amp.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Give me a few hours to get home from work, I'll look up better stuff for you.ANYTHING BUT SONY!! (and audiobahn for that matter :))djhttp://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/2/web/602000-602999/602027_21.jpg^^^^^^My 3 Babies!!!^^^^^^

whoa the sound of reason i need help with everything don't I ::nono:: !!! Well i'm basically running around stores checking out random subs. I think i'm pretty much set with my interior setup (Res up front and the 5x7 kappas out back with the kicker amp). Now i want to get those C10s out of my trunk.
Once again a WHOLE other ballgame since kicker subs are no longer the #1 subs. I was surprised to find circuitcity to sell audiobahns... i looked at reviews ... most people seem to like them a lot... i'm not a pro i'm just going by what ppl say pretty much. Since i listen mostly to rock/techno/industrial only sparecly rap I'm thinking i should stick to 10" woofers (and trunk limitations). And i'm thinking i should get ONE top of the line 10 inch sub( i was thinking a $200 audiobahn) from ebay that retails for $600. Get an amp for it... and run it at 800 watts rms. That's the ballpark figure i'm looking at, under 1000 watts rms.

RE: Help me choose my subs.

altough you said no to audiobahns... they have some crazy deals on ebay for them... they run for $100 what retails for 250 and up in the store.
So i'm thinking

AW1006T
AWES10p

Since i think i'll have trouble finding a decently priced box that is under 15 inches tall and would fit 12".

RE: Help me choose my subs.

If I had to chose out of the three you listed, I would go with the Alpines, but there's is definalty better out there. On some auction sites there are 10 inch IDMAX's in the $290 range. I little pricey, but one of the best SQ/SPL subs on the planet. It would definatly hit harder than 2 sony's or audiobahns. The nice thing about the IDMAX is it can get loud with 500 watts, and can take 1000 nicely if needed.

IF you want while you're talking to RE ask them for pricing on their lower level subs. Nothing RE makes is junk considering the price. The SE or SX may fit into your budget.

You can get a good 5 channel amp to power the speakers and sub at once and save money and real estate. I know Kicker has the 700.5 for under $300. JBL has a 6 channel amp that will work. There is the famous memphis belle for a ton of power.

RE: Help me choose my subs.

Hey if that AMP will power everything that would be a great deal, but is it going to have enough power?? I mean it is only 400 watts rms for the sub. I'm thinking of getting a sub that has around 900 watts rms.

RE: Help me choose my subs.

Oh yea i just double checked on the sub.. it will run for $330 shipped or so. I mean that is pretty expensive if i can get the audiobahn with a similar power rating for 1/2 price?? i mean if you say it will be better than 2 audiobahns AWES10ps than its worth it. IF the audiobahns are at 70 or even 60% of what this sub will do then i'm going with them... this is a HUGE price difference.

Yeah it's a bit pricey. Check with RE on their subs, can't go wrong. Remember it's not all about power ratings, it's about quality, and sound quality. ;)djhttp://memimage.cardomain.com/member_images/2/web/602000-602999/602027_21.jpg^^^^^^My 3 Babies!!!^^^^^^

Sigh it is a complicated world out there. But although it might not all be about power ratings i'm sure they play some role in this, i'm really drawn to the reviews/looks (both were great) of the audiobahn subs/amps. So I think i'm going to get a combo of their prime 10" sub and their Audiobahn A1300HCT amp. But i'm still thinking it over until tonight to make sure i don't make a mistake. BTW the main reason i'm going with audiobahn is price/value ratio (or at least my perceived price value ratio).

RE: Help me choose my subs.

u shouldnt even be considering audiobahn. but just like everyone else, youll probably go out and get one, say u love it now, hate it later, then bitch about it. u need to go out and do this right the 1st time. if u like kicker, i have a 12 inch solobaric that will pound. they sell boxes all over the place for this sub so u wont have any trouble there.

RE: Help me choose my subs.

I'm looking for a new sub. But thanks for the offer.
What kind of amp will do for a 900W RMS / 1800W Peak Power
Dual 4Ω Voice Coils sub?

Will an amp with these specs do?
300W RMS x 1 @ 4Ω
600W RMS x 1 @ 2Ω
1200W x 1 @ 1Ω

Or would a weaker one like this suffice?
4Ω Mono : 400W x 1 RMS
2Ω Mono : 800W x 1 RMS

RE: Help me choose my subs.

i'll stay away if i can find subs with over 600 watts rms for under 100 a pop. . Otherwise i'm getting 2 aw1006t a2200hct amp. Unless there is something better out there for the same price.

RE: Help me choose my subs.

Although i didn't listen to you guys on the subs, i hope i'm not mistaken. The interior speakers are what i consider more important and i went 100% with your recommendation! 5x7 Kappas out back. JBL KX 300.4 AMP. Probably going to call up RE for the components up front although i want to keep the stock look so i'm contemplating about how to wire them in correctly. Will the components fit inside there neatly and will I still be able to cover them up with the factory grill??? I’m probably going to go to walmart to buy some $4 6.5 components and I’m going to see what I can do to fabricate some kind of bracket for them so that they’ll fit. Thanks for all the help guys.

RE: Help me choose my subs.

On the back of the door panel right behind the grill there is some black hardened plastic that circles the grill. you will want to cut this down so the whole area is flush. The reason being the 6.5 has a lot of movement, and it may bounce of the door a little on beefier notes.

For a great superthin bracket, get some thin sheet metal at lowes for a couple bucks and a dremel with a fiberglass cut-off wheel. IT's takes a bit of time to make (and posibly a lot of wheels) but is the thinnest bracket you can make. Wood would have to be 1/4-1/2 inch, and that would stick out to far and hit the door panel. I would wait to cut the shape until you get the speakers, as every basket is a different size. Use some sheet metal screw to attach the bracket to the door, and (very important) put some dynamat material all around to avoid cancellation, preferably over the whole door.
