I did it! I did it!

I went and did the swap to coil springs this past weekend. Between the instructions from Struts-r-us, and from both M8 sites, all went well and quick. I wanted to give a shout out to Craig(BlackIceLSC) for being around to answer questions and alleviate some concerns I had. I think he was getting ready to stop answering me. ;( lol.

I am happy with it so far and I have learned a few things also. If you should go this route think carefully about ordering the lowered version. I wasn't prepared for it to be as low as it really is. That was one of the concerns Craig helped me with. You can stick about 2-3 fingers between the tire and wheel well. My car sits about 5 inches off the ground. I was next to someone in a newer Cavalier today they sat a full head higher than me.

Just ask Joe how low my car is he looked at it earlier today.

The handling is pretty good. I've been putting it tthrough the paces since I finished it Sat afternoon. Another word of caution to those that might be getting ready to go the lowered route.............WATCH OUT FOR SPEED BUMPS AND BIG CURBS. There is a section of town that has some curbs that when you pull in in a regular vehicle it hurts to hit the curb at 5mph let alone a lowered mark viii.

WHen I say curb I mean the rounded part of someone's driveway or parking lot entrance not the squared off part along the road. I had to say this because I know someone would have to be a smart-alec.

To those who don't agree with my decision to switch over.....Get o
ver it! This was a truly financial decision. The whole left side dropped without notice, whenever it wanted too. I would have to start my car about 4-5 times to get it to rise up when I wanted to leave somewhere. Only to have it drop about 5 minutes down the road. The old system was totally unreliable. Coil struts=$465 shipped new air suspension from Eddie would have been around $1400-1500 shipped for everything.

Yes I would have loved to have continued using the Air suspension and I would have bought it all from Eddie Spinx(GREAT GUY) due to previous dealings with him. I just couldn't afford to go his route at this time....maybe at a later date maybe I might switch back. I don't know.

RE: I did it! I did it!

Craig is the M A N. Congrats on the "upgrade". Watch out for the speedbumps

Not to disagree with your descision...

but I believe we put "all four corners" on tiffs car for 695 dollars?

If I was quoted 14-1500 I probably would have gone the "coil spring route as well".

I guess a relay 50.00
a air ride computer if you needed 300.00
compressor 150 ish...
that's 1100, thereabouts IF your entire system was bad.
The compressor, all four bags, the pump and the relay.

i wouldn't mind a decent set of "drag shocks" for the Lincoln.
That alone would drive me down the "coil spring path".
Maybe some 80/20's or somme 90/10s up front?
HMMMMM

RE: I did it! I did it!

Eddie mentioned a while ago that he was planning on coming out with koni adjustable air struts. I don't know the status on that though.

RE: I did it! I did it!

THe car was very low. But the springs were heavier than the front struts. I am looking for something light for the front and reasonable. I did not get to drive it to test it out...yet. :O)

Ooo BUMMER... MORE WEIGHT.. JUST what a mark VIII needs!
Hmmmmmm

RE: I did it! I did it!

If you take out the air compressor Ryan said you might still loose some weight. I was wanting to loose all the weight of the compressor.

RE: I did it! I did it!

Lose the compressor and replace it with a spider valve. You'd save all the weight of the compressor, the only drawback would be you have to stop at a gas station for air if it gets too low.

why not take out the struts too??? who needs em??

RE: I did it! I did it!

Have any pictures of how it looked after the finished install? I'd like to see this.

RE: I did it! I did it!

Is't the Thunderdird suspension the same?
If it is, aren't there kick ass performance systems for the t-bird that just so happen to fit the Mark VIII. If I ever do this I will look at the tbird options first.
They might have some light systems?

RE: I did it! I did it!

Yes, it is the same except for the aluminum lower LCA's in the Mark VIII, and the sensors and such for the air ride.
