I Smell Gas????

On the side, I'd like a clue on how to remove the fuel rail too.

Remove the 8 Bolts holding it on (4 intake and 4 fuel rail) and use a small flat head to GENTLY pry out the fuel injectors from the intake. Its a lot easier to keep the injectors IN the fuel rail, rather then in the intake. It makes the install process a ton easier. They should come out of the intake with ease. I usually just stick a flat head screw driver inbetween the intake and the bottom of the injector and just twist slightly while lifting up. Start from one end and work your way to the other, i.e. front to back or back to front.

Also, you'll need the disconnect tool to remove the fuel lines from the fuel rail.

That's the easy part.

The hard part is removing the old hose without nicking the barbed fittings.

The hardest part is shoving the new hose onto the barbed fittings.

LOL @ budpytco

Disconnecting the fuel lines is what I was wondering about... I need a special tool. @hat is it called?

Yep...thats the one.

Here is the one I use.....works GREAT.

Hey I'm new and I've had my Mk8 since it hit the showroom. I had the same problem that you had. It usually happens when you really top the gas tank off. You see when you top it off the gas excapes into a reserve and just leeks out while you are driving. It's a safety feature that ford started doing in the 90's.

I have the smaller X tool for my fuel filter.
Use the same one for the fuel rail?!?!? or the bigger X tool

Yep...same one, but the fuel rail has two different sizes. Make sure you push in the tool AND the hose, and then pull on the hose while keeping the tool pushed in.

gas excapes into a reserve

Yep...it going into the Charcoal Canister...and its NOT made to hold gas, only capture the gas FUMES and recycle them back into the intake.

Aaron.....you should post some pics, I don't think I've heard of anyone being an OG Mark 8 owner on here!

B.A.L.T. folks!
I forgot to report that the push-on hose works perfect! And it looks cool too!
It was kinda hard to push on seeing how flexible it is, but that's all it took, Push on n go.
Thanks Driller and J.

would the fuel injectors have anything to do with it? maybe somewhat clogged, too much fuel or the wrong grade of fuel?
