installing an XM radio

I have an XM radio that I move from car to car and I have 2 docks, one in my DD and I am looking to put one in the Mark. I have decided on two spots, which one is less detrimental for me to tape it onto? I'm thinking long term, if I ever get the Double Din or something new I will remove it thus I'm not screwing it in. Tell me which would handle double sided tape better.

or does anyone else have an idea? I chose this spot for its pretty much instant access to the radio for the connector I'm using.

I wouldn't tape it to the spot in the 2nd picture. I think that is just a rubberized spray on finish which is not very durable.

See if you can slide a credit card beneath the panel trim. If so, you can fashion a thin bracket from plastic or metal and affix the mount to the front edge and slide the rear edge in the crack.

Wirelessly posted (motorola "slow-assed" droid: Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8H7 Safari/6533.18.5)

Ok you fashion me the bracket cause I can't do that.

seems if I can get said bracket made it could basically slip under from the right side and sit atop the dash to the right of the computer panel

I'm referring to the bracket jp makes

I have the vent clip but I don't want to use it, pulling the radio on and off could break something

Mike, you'd be amazed what one can make with a tin snips, and an old computer case. :)

smooth off the rough edges with the file from a multi-tool, hit it with some paint, and presto.

Thats how i made my gps mount. Cut out a flat 3x4" peice w/ snips, smoothed the edges and painted it black.. Drilled holes to match the climate controls and mounted it to the right of it using it's 2 screws. Looks great.

Used a pad of velcro to secure the gps to it. I'll try and get a pic of it 2nite.

I mounted the standard Roady II mount where the absent seat heater switch goes....I tuck the wires for power and antenna up under the console edge when I have the radio in the house or the truck.

ok people bring tools for this to Carlisle and you can help me fashion it

if ou want the neatest and best mount you want a ProClip, they make one specifically for the Mark VIII. http://www.proclipusa.com/brodit-ve...7-1998/proclip-angled-mount-852389-13081.aspx

It mounts on exhisting mounts behind the wood surround and all you need do then is buy the appropriate bracket for your unit to mount to it, they have for phones, GPS, radio, etc. I have them for the iPhone and they are perfect. This picture shows the mount with my old phone but you get the idea.

I took a piece of 1-1/2" wide x 1/16" thick aluminum strap and was able to jam in between the lower and upper dash about 1/2" and it was very secure. You could cut it to the length required and affix the radio mount to the end of it and it would be almost un-noticeable.

Mike, do you have a factory radio? I have an XM reciever that mounts in the trunk and plugs into any Pioneer/Premier deck. That way no extra stuff hanging off the dash and it can be controlled through the deck itself. I dont use it any more so you could have it.
