lincoln vs honda

Progressive will try and low ball the repair. I've been there before. THey're abosulutely the worst to deal with.

Salvage value of your car is between $500-$1100 if the miles are close to 100k.

Also, if you have them total it, there will be salvage record with DMV. Next time you go to renew your plates, they will want you to perform state repair inspection, and issue a salvage rebuild title after that. You might be ok after the repair if you keep the car, but if you go to sell it, the next person might have issues with it.

Hopefully they'll just write out a substantial repair check in your name and you can go shopping with Jamie for Torreador parts.

Illinois may be different that Missouri, but I once had my Mark VIII totaled because of hail damage. Yes, hail damage.

They "allowed" me to buy the car back and did NOT issue a salvage title. I used the check to fix the damage, then had an American Family adjuster look over the car to make sure that the damage was repaired and I was A-OK. If I didn't have the damage fixed they said they would not issue me full coverage again on that vehicle. I insisted that they take photographs of the car so that later there wouldn't be any misunderstandings.

Your situation may be different. I hope you come out of it as good as I did.

Glad to hear that everybody is ok. To give a bit of insight (I work in the auto insurance field) - you do have different laws out there, than here in Ca.

In regards to the vehicle being totalled, the industry average is if the cost of repair is 80% or more of the vehicle's worth it is totalled. This obviously lends the Mark VIII to be totalled easily, b/c it is so expensive to repair compared to the market value of the vehicle.

Also, if it is a total, don't feel like you have to accept their first offer for the vehicle....you have the right to haggle with them.

Hope it turns out well....

Here is a picture of the damage. Our State Farm agent said their rule of thumb is if the damage plus expenses starts reaching 80% market value. They also take into account what the risk is that more damage will be found once the car is dissasembled.

Damage was less than expected. Intiial evaluation indicates $1000-1500 damage. The bumber and absorber will need to be replaced. Plus repainting the front liscence plate holder.

Exhaust needs fixing... at least 2k. Once all said and done. Those mufflers retail for like 800 a pop or something ridiculous. Time to get a nice exhaust a cheap bumper and used absorber from jamie and use insurance money left over for mods.
