Mark VIII

Well Sir... What else can one do when the unit is not in front of him? I'd think "theorizing" about what could be wrong is our only option here. I'm just trying to give the guy some ideas about what could be wrong.

Totally, I was just giving you a hard time, and like I said in another post in another thread, "this is the INTERNET and we can only do so much without being able to drive the car". LOL! Giving ideas is one thing, but its super nice to include how to FIX the ideas you're throwing at someone. For instance the $4 fix.....I threw it out there and explained it to an extent. Now you got me all curious about these little shocks, haha.

Understood.

These "little shocks" are nothing more than latex (or thin rubber), silicone filled mounts. Think of the air ride compressor rubber isolators. Typically they are round with the outers mounted to the actual drive, while the inners support the mechanism. They can break rather easily, and the silicone can and will ron out of them.

I thought I had a picture of one from when my AutoPC died. alas, I do not.

Sweet, I can see it now. The isolator went bad and now the case of the drive is actually hitting a hard surface, causing the CD to skip due to the lack of insulation. Like when a motor mount goes bad and the engine vibrates on metal because the rubber is no more.

So, to clean the lense do I have to take it apart, or just use one of those disc looking things? I have never done this before. I used it this morning and it skipped less than it did the last time.

Nope. You just need a Lens cleaning disk... Unless the dust is under the lens, which has known to happen with CD drives... Like on my D1.

Frank, you can also use the "air in a can" stuff by just removing the 10 disk cartridge and spraying the air around in there first to remove any loose particles. THAN use the cd cleaner disk.

Where does all the junk that you are blowing around finally comes to rest at? Probably the same dang place it started from....Stick a clean cloth in there before you start blowing it with canned air...wait 10-15 min then pull the cloth out.

Bah, lol, its the laser lense that needs cleaning who cares about the rest! hehe. Better yet...place a damp clean rag in there so all the dust sticks to it. If you get the can-o-air nozzle in there far enough all the dust is going to blow out anyways.

Is this the connector needed to connect to the premium system? I found it in a box of stuff I had laying around.

I know it's not a good picture at all.

The connector you need is the one that I pictured Frank. Seriously......go spend 12 dollars at Best Buy and get the right one. :)

CD changer get better?

Actually, I am hoping to get the cd changer working...I just wondered if this was that converer thing that they use to feed the signal to an amp.

That converter thingy looks like a crossover of sorts. Possibly to run in-line to all the speaker wires to sort out the bass to the sub/mids and the highs to the tweeters.....something your factory amps already do.

J, I think those are individual gain controls that way you can adjust the power of the signal going into the amp so it doesn't distort the sound when only turning it up.

Oh ok Matt...thanks for clarifying :) I've never seen one before but that would probably make more sense.

Max....he said he's gonna try to get the changer to work first, and than New HU and harness adapter. I think he's just a confused boy at times :confused-red:

Ok, so far, I have tried blowing canned air into the cd changer, and using a "store bought" cd instead of a burned one, and it definately works better.
One thing I noticed is that the passenger side front speaker sounds weak and crackly. It does not do this when I use the radio, only the cd player. At first I thought it was the amp causing it, but now I am not sure.
Tomorrow I am going to buy a cd lens cleaner and see if I have any luck with that.

Check the connections to the CD player.
