modified gen 1 intake?

I've done some searing and found only a couple that have actually cut up the gen 1 intake and ported and polished it. I found some pics from ponyfrek's projects so I got a good idea of how to go about it. I just picked an intake up cheap and I'm thinking about a p&p. I want to put on a cobra manifold but just don't have the cash right now.

So for those that have done it, is it worth it? Any before and after dyno results? I know this takes some time and thats fine but if it's very minimal (less than 5hp) I'm not going to bother. So any input or reccomendations?

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

I have two new intakes that are finished. Here is the all new design. These pics were taken a long time ago. IT is now complete.

The other intake is already on the car and After we take it to the track to see the results the first one will be up for sale. IT is direct fit for a Gen 1. I will have some pics of it soon.

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

Damn.

What car are you running this on? Do you have a pic of it done?

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

those intakes look like they will have cleareance issues.. and I'll be the 1st one to buy it when it goes on sale if it flows better.

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

Those runners look like they'd go well with lotsa boost or lotsa spray. Or even just lotsa compression. Either way, you're going to want to have lotsa RPM.

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

that looks like one serious intake...............wow. So I'm assuming clearance issues with that? What type of application is that beast designed for?

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

That intake is made to fit under a stock Gen 1 hood. I am not going ot make something that would not fit. THe first intake is done and we will be going back to the track next week to see the improvements. I have resolved some issues with fuel rails, ect to where it will be a somewhat direct swap for Gen 1's.
This intake will work well n/a. But even better with a power adder of course. The Throttle body will be to the pasesnger side jsut as if you had a 96-98 cobra manifold on the car.

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

I have a cheap short runner intake that is already finished and will be tested as well. It is based off of the gen 1 intake. I will post some pics of that soon as well.

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

So, if it would bolt on to the Gen 1, and the TB is in the same spot as a Cobra, what would keep it from bolting up to a Gen 2?

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

it will bolt onto a gen 2, but something different might have to be done with hte fuel lines, ect. I do not have a Gen 2 to see if it will fit or not as Dave pointed out.

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

Sounds like you might be in business joe.

you got time to crank these things out between work and driving that viper?

i'd be willing to test it for ya... but my fuel lines and rails aren't stock anymore. cobra rails with the cobra intake.

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

I'm curious, what does it look like with the plaenum installed? Have any pictures of the finished product?

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

Any idea what type of gains would be seen with this manifold? What price range would it be in? Looks killer, would love to see some results when you get them! :7

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

there will not be any freebe test units or give aways. The new intake will be around 750. The modded gen 1 will be around 350 or so. So far the modded gen 1 is kicking ass. Concrete results are being taken now. My guess is +2mph in the 1/4 mile.

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

Sorry, wasn't looking for a freebie or a giveaway, but if the results are concrete, and you want someone to buy it to try on a first gen, I might be up for it.

RE: modified gen 1 intake?

Any info on that modified shorten runner intake, any pics ?

By the way very nice work, can't wait to see these bad boys done...

I am definently in the field for a modified intake, I'm moving towards a cobra manifold with shortened runners and lots of porting/polish. LOL. I wish I could do this on my own.

PM me if you have any cobra manifolds that have been modified.
