Don't I know it JP. Scott and Steve are very good to me. :)The Raxles arrived today :) without the nuts though :( . Have to start calling around to see who has them in stock.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/papapeach/markmodsraxles002.jpg
[/div]

Try Fastpartsnetwork or rockauto. If they don't have them, use the old nuts with red lok-tite. That'll hold better than new nuts anyway.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

I found them at the Ford dealer in Marietta. Had to special order them. $20 for two nuts  . I would have used the old ones, but I do not think they will be in good shape. The threads are totally gone - the axle shaft is smooth with rust where the threads use to be. Besides, that is the only reason I replaced these shafts anyway, and would rather use all new parts since I went this far.

Ahhh...I thought the lateral splines were rusted away - I should have read the post more carefully.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Finally, this Friday will be the day for the install. The axle nuts have arrived. Running out of days before SSHS6, and I would like to drive it with all the mods at least for a week before the big race. I still need to have the tune adjusted for the gear - shift points, etc., and I might need to go with Aric - local tuner here in Kennesaw, instead of Lidio if there are any more delays. And, I still need to go to Summit for the DR's. Tic toc tic toc... :)

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Tic toc tic toc...

The clock tics for us all. I have the new injectors for my '93 and today just got a line on a pair of skinnies for the front. If I can get the exhaust leak fixed and control arm bushings in within the next couple weeks... ::uh::

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Good luck with your punch list JP! Here is the latest mod news... The Mark is going to have the 410's, T-Lok, and axles installed by Scott L. beginning this Friday night, and will be finished sometime Saturday morning.

Time permitting, Aric C. with Injected Engineering: http://www.injectedengineering.com/ will dyno tune the Mark again to adjust for all the mods I had done. My current Lidio dyno tune file cannot be opened and adjusted, so, this is the next best thing.

Aric has 4 other cars to dyno tune besides mine on Saturday, so it might be rescheduled since I have no idea when Scott L. will finish. Aric will be using the dyno at Team Ford, so everything will be done in the same building.

Here are some more mod pics of the 90mm C&L and cone filter I installed. Aric will be calibrating it to work with the 2.5" exhaust, 12c plugs, 3000 stall torque converter, and 4.10 gears.

Mike, you're a regular Jeckyl & Hyde.

Quite a while ago, I think your first mod was "new wheels". :+

Lately you've transformed into a mad mod scientist. }( :7

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Call Lidio, explain your situation, and he should be able to email the tune to your other tuner. That might save you a couple bucks.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

What a long day... Glad to say though, all done :) 410's, t-lok, and raxles were installed without a hitch, and the tune is purdy cool too. It is totally different than Lidio's with the shift schedule - tc lock-up, line pressure, shift points, etc.

Got an extra 3hp, and 4tq going to the 90mm C&L maf and cone filter from stock 80mm maf and K&N panel filter. So, the numbers Aric went with were 233hp and 240tq. It got sideways going into 2nd on the interstate on ramp getting up to speed on the way home }( .

I am going to drive it a couple days and take some notes, and stop back at Aric's shop to tweek the tune for shift points, and maybe line pressure. I also have a vibration from 65 to 70mph going up hill, so, Scott might have to index the MMDS.

Let me put the gen 2 speedo gear question to bed for good... The xcal2 will adjust the speedometer when going to 410's. I verified this against my GPS navigation unit, and it is dead on accurate even at 80mph.

Here are some pictures, and a video of the dyno pulls:

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Man, you guys take this SSHS thing seriously! :eek:Jeff, I'm sure if you put that tranny cooler down in the bumper, you'll be fine. I put my mondo tranny cooler there and it's been perfect in all weather and driving conditions so far. http://www.lincolnsclub.org/forum/user_files/1743.jpgI mounted it in a temporary fashion and have to eventually go back and make it permanent. But I want to wait for cold weather and see if I need to add the thermal bypass valve since I want to run all steel lines and do away with any rubber hose.Mike, you're lucky to have someone of that caliber available in your area to work on your Mark VIII. ;) I would be a lot poorer and the Blue Flame would be a lot hotter if I was that lucky. }( :D
[/div]

John, yep, thats where i had my old B&M trany cooler mounted exactly like yours and worked great and was also alot smaller than the one i have now. Thats where i have to put this one back too. It's not working that effectively where it is now collecting heat off of radiator and also blocking half of the radiator. I'll be finishing up my Rear cutoff switch on monday. I'll tackle this one tonight and get the nose put all back together.
I was wondering if the general concensus was to run the beauty cover with the flip windshield washer doors in it for more airflow forced to be channled through the radiator, or to leave it off for air to go around everything. This cover im talking about.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Mike, man that car is clean. I didnt even see the car shift on the dyno. Either that car's shift schedule really is that smooth or he had it locked out for the pull? How are you liking the gears? It's a whole new beast now huh? }( I keep wondering now what your Not telling us you had done...if you went this crazy on mods. :D

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

I would leave it. I think it definitely helps with airflow not to short-circuit around the radiator. There apparently is a lot of air flow through the lower bumper as well.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Just got home from Summit and picked-up some more goodies :)

Thanks, Jeff and JP. The Mark is really moving good now. So good in fact, that I decided to get a helmet. That little yellow light with the spinning tire keeps coming on, even in third gear now... The dyno pull is with the tc locked in third gear. They idle it into third before the pull, so, my guess the pull starts from at least a 30mph roll with tc, and od off.

The XCAL2 doesn't have much to do with the speedo on 2nd gens. Any chages to the settings for some reason do not affect the speedo (let's call this and other "locked" parameters it SCT vs. Mark VIII glitch). The speedometer get its signal from ABS sensors at the front wheels and the gear change doesn't affect it in any way. Shift points however, are a combination of that speed sensor and the trans output shaft sensor. You have to change them anyway with the gear change, thus the speedo gear change is not necessary or required.

OK there formerly Mr. 15 Flat, now we want to know what you're NOT telling us! :7

You said that much better than I, Jeremi :) Thanks!

Aric - the guy that did the dyno tune on Saturday, wants me to go back to stock heat range plugs and chuck the 12c's, and go back to copper 764's gapped at 55. He said leave the colder plugs for when I go to FI or spray.

If you look close at the second dyno run, the Mark was spitting carbon out the tail pipes. He said that excess carbon is the result of a incomplete burn, and all the build-up gathers on top of the piston. So, I picked-up a set of copper 764's and a fuel filter yesterday, and might put them in today after work to see if it will help.

Need to then drive it some more, and take some more notes on when and how it is shifting, get the DR's mounted and balanced, and talk to Scott and see what we can do about the vibration, since it is at interstate cruise speed.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

lol JP. No secrets left. Everything is now out in the open. I was told to get headers, under drives, a Lightning MAF with a Cobra power pipe/tube, and a electric water pump, if I wanted to see times similar to you, NA.

Just not enough time now to get it all done, so, if conditions are real good, I should be in the high 13's with a little luck. At SSHS6, 13.99 and better requires a helmet, and as the car stands now, I think I am just too close to that time to not have a helmet.
