lol JP. No secrets left. Everything is now out in the open.
...
Just not enough time now to get it all done, so, if conditions are real good, I should be in the high 13's with a little luck. At SSHS6, 13.99 and better requires a helmet, and as the car stands now, I think I am just too close to that time to not have a helmet.[/div]

I never had any secrets, what it is, is what it is. As far as the helmet, actually I wish you luck and hope you do need it. ;) I'm just not sure you got enough converter for it?

[div class="dcquote"][strong]Quote[/strong]I was told to get headers, under drives, a Lightning MAF with a Cobra power pipe/tube, and a electric water pump, if I wanted to see times similar to you, NA. [/div]

{trash talk}
You're gonna need more than that on that Gen2 to catch me. }(

Besides, I see where all this is heading... you're not going for the NA title.

[div class="dcquote"][strong]Quote[/strong][div class="dcquote"][strong]Quote[/strong]Let me put the gen 2 speedo gear question to bed for good... The xcal2 will adjust the speedometer when going to 410's. [/div]The XCAL2 doesn't have much to do with the speedo on 2nd gens. Any chages to the settings for some reason do not affect the speedo (let's call this and other "locked" parameters it SCT vs. Mark VIII glitch). The speedometer get its signal from ABS sensors at the front wheels and the gear change doesn't affect it in any way. Shift points however, are a combination of that speed sensor and the trans output shaft sensor. You have to change them anyway with the gear change, thus the speedo gear change is not necessary or required.[/div]You said that much better than I, Jeremi :) Thanks!Aric - the guy that did the dyno tune on Saturday, wants me to go back to stock heat range plugs and chuck the 12c's, and go back to copper 764's gapped at 55. He said leave the colder plugs for when I go to FI or spray. If you look close at the second dyno run, the Mark was spitting carbon out the tail pipes. He said that excess carbon is the result of a incomplete burn, and all the build-up gathers on top of the piston. So, I picked-up a set of copper 764's and a fuel filter yesterday, and might put them in today after work to see if it will help.Need to then drive it some more, and take some more notes on when and how it is shifting, get the DR's mounted and balanced, and talk to Scott and see what we can do about the vibration, since it is at interstate cruise speed.
[/div]

I'm running two steps colder plugs and I run cleaner than 99% of the Marks out there.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

As far as colder plugs, IMHO, the object of the game is to run as cold of plug as possible without undue fouling and/or 'incomplete combustion'. The only way to ascertain that is spark plug inspection. Once I ran 764s and then went with 22Cs. The last check I deemed there was no hint of fouling and I changed to 12Cs.

BTW, the carbon build-up could also be from a fat fuel mixture. I get lots of that.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

I will take some pics of the 12c's and post them. The a/f mix with Lidio's dyno tune was dead on good from the start, and with Aric's dyno tune, the a/f actually started out lean due to the 90mm MAF install. All this, under dyno conditions though.

I know that Lidio looked at me funny when I told him I was running 12c's also, since the engine is stock. There is a hint of soot on the exhaust tips from time to time, if that matters any. I also ran the 22c's for a while, and IIRC, that is when I first noticed soot on the tips.

I get the feeling that tuners in general, are split on what spark plugs to use. I know of a couple chip vendors out there that say to use the colder plugs too. Thought I would give the 764's another shot.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Thanks, JP. I can't wait to find out what the Mark will do :) Yep, I agree that I still have a long way to go to catch you on the top of the NA Title hill. My goal: I just want to get off the bottom of the NA Title list :)

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Those 12Cs look pretty good in the pic.

Did you check the gap on them to see what kind of erosion you had in 10,000 miles?

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

I set the gap on the 12c's at 54, and they still are at 54 after 10k miles. I will say, I run Lucas fuel treatment every fill-up, and just did a Seafoam treatment a couple weeks back before my annual oil change. That might of changed the look of the plugs some.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Got the drag radials mounted and balanced today on my old set of Conti rims. They look cool. :) Also installed a new IAC, because ever since I installed the C&L MAF, the car idle will pulse until it is at normal operating temp.

I talked to Scott today about the vibration, and he agrees that it sounds like the drive shaft needs to be indexed. I am going to take it to him tomorrow, and see if he can make it go away. I also need to call Aric, and see if he will take the Mark for another ride. I think it is short shifting into 3rd gear a bit early.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

They look good Mike. :)

The ET Street DRs weigh in at 28 lbs each. What's the conti wheels weigh? I'm guessing 20 pounds plus or minus.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Thanks, JP. The combined tire and wheel weigh 50 pounds per the bathroom scale. So, the Conti rim must weigh 22 pounds.

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

haha Very sharp drag wheel setup. Almost makes you not want to smoke em up. naaa John Force burn outs rule. }(
Must be nice to be able to "walk" into a local summitt racing store and get the trinkets you need for a job instead of waiting impatiently from an internet order and wondering if the mailman is holding your packages and secretly viewing your stress on camcorder for Americas funniest videos. Talking to yourself "Where is my packages?" lol Nooo ive never done that...;)

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Thanks, Jeff. I have never done a burn out with the Mark, so this is going to be something new for me. Craig has given me some pointers, so I should be good to go. If anyone has a Mark VIII burn out procedure that works for them, I would be all ears... :)

Summit is a car guy's candy store. What I like, is the fact that you can look at all this stuff in person, rather than a picture. They were more than happy to bring out any helmet I wanted to try on and look at. Can't do that with a picture.

With the 4.30 gears, I leave mine in drive and turn the TC and OD off. I roll up to the water as directed by the track official and stop on his command. On his signal, I will spin the tires while in the water just enough to wet them and move forward 3-5 feet out of the water. With the brakes heavily applied I will stab the throttle sort of quickly while holding the brakes and as the tires start to spin up to speed I will ease up on the brake but keep enough brake pressure to hold the car still(line locks would be nice). I'll try to keep the tach around 4 grand or more and start a silent count. At about 3 seconds or so it will usually start to bog and I'll apply more throttle to maintain speed. At about 5 seconds I'll release the brake and roll out maintaining the throttle until the car is moving along and starting to grip the track. Then it's off the throttle and on the brakes in enough time to stop the car well ahead of the tree.

Then the staging fun begins. ;)

Is this "store" near the SSHS6 event? :9

RE: Mods, Mods, and More SSHS6 Mods...

Cool. Thanks, JP. I already saw a demo from you in person back in August :)

Yes. The store is kinda near by. It is off I75 south of Atlanta in McDonough, GA. Here is a link to more info. Click on the pdf file. I would say it is maybe around 70-100 miles beyond the drag strip for you - all interstate driving though. http://www.summitracing.com/retail/
