Nitrous Oxide

Ok, this is just a wild question but has anyone put a little shot of nitrous on the mark? I read in HOT Rod i think, about a GTO they sprayed using a NOS kit that sprays in front of the MAF and lets the stock computer do the rest. This seems like it would be perfect to screw right into our airboxes, am I right? I dont know, just a thought. I can just see the face on that guy in his little zip zapper as he chugs into the next light. Ha.

RE: Nitrous Oxide

That's called a "dry" nitrous kit and a good running Mark VIII can easily take a 75-100 shot with no problem.

RE: Nitrous Oxide

i'd spray it closer to the throttle body and actually adjust the tune to deal with the nitrous.

RE: Nitrous Oxide

Spray it really close to the TB. Attached is a little PP thing I put togeather entitled "how to NOS" IT is a mark VIII specific NOS installation guide.

I sprayed a 125 for a while in that car.

RE: Nitrous Oxide

Thanks for the link Joe. Did you notice any structural issues with cutting that X brace. I thought you were supposed to mount the bottle facing forward. Any issues with that? Great write up by the way!

RE: Nitrous Oxide

Thanks for that writeup Joe. I know when I spoke to you about this a year ago you hadn't written this up yet, so it's nice to see what all is involved. How long did it take you to install that anyways?

RE: Nitrous Oxide

I have had that write up done for a while now.

You can mount the bottle a couple different ways. YOu will notice that the bottle is turned to the 3 o'clock position. If you mount hte bottle sideways it must be like that so the liquid Nitrous oxide is drawn to the pickup tube inside the bottle upon acceleration. The most popular way is to mount it facing forward.

The car ran at least 20 12.X second passes with that setup. If I would have had a convertor in the car at that time I am sure it would have ran a 12.2 or faster.

RE: Nitrous Oxide

Did you have any problems after installing your nos I'm seriously thinking of doing that

The only problem I had was giving people >$3.5/lb to refill my bottle.

Hey Joe, I see this was about a year ago, but you didn't mention where the throttle position sensor wire was located... or did you use a micro-switch for WOT?

RE: Nitrous Oxide

So are mid 12's obtainable with a 125 shot of NOS on a 95 Mark VIII?
What else is required? Chip, 3.73 or 4.10 gears, Bigger Fuel Pump, Adj FPR, J-Mod, ???

RE: Nitrous Oxide

Joe (ponyfreak) went 12.7's with nitrous, headers, gears, MAF, and FPR. Not 100% sure on that mods list but it should be close.

Remarkably minimal mods for sure...

Chip
Pro-M MAF
Headers
Exhaust
MSD Spark Plug Wires
AWSF-12C Plugs
CAI
Ported Intake
3.73 Gears
Electric Water Pump
Shift Kit

12.69 @ 111.57 125 shot-- 13.7X @ 102.57 N/A

RE: Nitrous Oxide

I used the 5115 kit and the micro switch. The cobra kit is the best way to go but is 850$. The 5115 is 479. YOu can buy a TPS sensor switch off of ebay cheap if you look. I have one that I will be putting back on the red car in a couple of months.

I went 12.69 or something with a 2.0X short time.

I had NO convertor and no slicks. THe additon of both of these would have netted me a low second run 12.2 or so. THe car was making a lot of power as it was trapping in the 112mph when the spark plugs were in good shape. THe stock ignition was subpar and I had to change the plugs after 3 bottles went though it.(once a month or less) THe big hit of raw fuel definatly contributed to the spark plugs fouling so fast. I did not have a purge on the kit.

I NEVER ran at the track with the electric water pump but am sure I could have ran in the 113 second range with the 125 shot.

I highly doubt anyone will ever out MPH the red whores times with a 125 shot and a stock motor. That car ran extremely well, and put down one of the fastest EVER stock mark VIII times. (14.4X if I reemmber right)

FYI The car weighted 3900 with me in it. I weight 203-205 with my helmet on, so not much weight was taken out at all besides all the basic stuff like spare tire, etc.

RE: Nitrous Oxide

YOu have to have a FPR and a 255LPH fuel pump with a new fuel filter before installing Nitrous on your car.
