Old Foggie Car?

RE: Old Foggie Car?

I know it is :) but the T.C. feels tighter and one does not "feel" the speed as much as in the Mark. On the down side, it's VERY easy to get a sppeding ticket in a 35 MPH zone, when you suddenly realize you are doing 50.

RE: Old Foggie Car?

I'm 24. I had my first car at 17 - an '85 Caprice. Lasted 1 year and then I got a '92 Grand Marquis. I finally got a job and that's how I afforded the Mark. I love the big cars, but I wanted something
a little faster but still big. :)

RE: Old Foggie Car?

Sandy,
I don't know your exact age, but I'll assume it's close to mine (within 20). I'll be 64 August 5th. I took my Mark up to 105 MPH about a month ago....fastest I've been driving an auto since I don't know when.... It was great! And didn't take too long either! It's not the speed that keeps me from doing it, it's the damn cost of the insurance that comes with the ticket!!! How 'bout you?

RE: Old Foggie Car?

I'm 56 ~ (a "young" 56) December 13th 1946.
I truthfully do not enjoy prolonged very fast driving. In 1974 I was in an accident at a combined speed of 40 MPH. It scared the living you know what outta me! I walked away with a deep cut to the elbow and slept in my own bed, that night, thanks to my parent's 5,500 pound Imperial. Since THAT time, I have been a BIG car buyer. Granted, selling cars I drove everything, many of which were small. But they were free to me. When the wallet comes out, it's gotta be a BIG car. I firmly believe in them. I find prolonged high speed driving to be tiresome and not really time-saving.
I took the Townie up to 84/85 to check for driveline vibrations (none) and what ever other flaws were "on the far side of 60". Also to experience that speed in that car. I did the same with my Mark, when it was new. On the freeways & interstates I'll usually cruise around 60-65. Here in New Jersey, we have alot of traffic, so it's not exactly like Wyoming, Montana or the Plains of Texas. Unless it's between 2AM & 5AM you're gonna have traffic, so it's even sometimes difficult to use the speed control feature.
For what it's worth, my friends tell me that I am a speed demon around town, and slow on the highway. IF this is true {probably is} it also probably because I figure an accident at 35MPH would more than likely not prove life threatening, but at 75MPH....Well, you figure it out.
This here Town Car gets away from under you because it's so smooooth and quiet that you do not realize how fast you are going. It's so isolated from the road, pot holes and all.
The automatic windshield wipers came on today, and scared the livin' ____ out of me! It was like, "What the heck did I touch" knowing I had not touched anything! :)

Sandy, get used to things turning on automatically around you. But it sure must feel nice to know that your driving in a full body on frame, full size car, and that anything short of a Explorer wouldnt be able to cause any serious damage in a accident.

RE: Old Foggie Car?

I re-read what I wrote and there's an error. The "Combined speed" of the accident was NOT "40" ~ we were each going about 40, so the combined speed should have been 80 !

RE: Old Foggie Car?

Lincoln's are awesome. I would never buy new but used have an incredible price and value. The Conti is my first car and I'm only 22. It's nowhere near as sporty as the mark and not as "pimp" as the towncar but I still turn heads with its combo of beauty and power. I got a great deal and my parents god bless them helped me with insurance so it's all good. I'm just hoping Lincoln changes there lineup. They have a history of pioneering. I hope they continue that in the future. Their current lineup is pitiful.
