one more thought on the motor

i have ben thinking (every one run Ive ben thinking lol). I have ben thinking how cool it would be to have a 5.0 badge on the fender and actually mean it. Then Ive ben thinking about this being a dailey driver and my different motor combination options.

option #1 would be a all forged non stroker low compression motor. With maby 16-17 psi (maby more as i ha vent done much research on this yet)from a properly setup turbo setup.

option #2 would be option #1 with a stroker

option #3 would be a forged stroker built for a high HP N/A motor

please keep in mind that this would be my only way to and from work and where ever else i need to go.

I'm kinda leaning towards option #1 because it would be a street car and it should run and get about (maby) the same gas mileage as stock as long as i stay out of the turbo.

What do you guys think i should do?

RE: one more thought on the motor

im going to try to keep this on a budget but what ever road i take will be done right. If i cant aford to do it right ill wate untill i can.

RE: one more thought on the motor

Well, if you're on a budget, all three of those options are out the window.

Go get some gears, a torque converter, and a vortech.

RE: one more thought on the motor

I've got a 3200 converter in my garage and gears will be soon if not next. I see a lot of cars on here with "hair dryers" on them but i just like the power and adjustability of the turbo. I like how you can adjust the boost level with a knob instead of a pulley. I also like how when your just cruising its just chillen its not making any boost so its not working the motor.

*prepares to get flamed*

any thoughts on this guys?

RE: one more thought on the motor

As soon as I close on a house the red car will get Twins.... I promise you guys that. For now the 175 shot is working ok

And how does supercharger make any boost when just cruising ?

Turbos DO rock though.

He's got a point...when the wastegates are open the blower isn't doing much...

RE: one more thought on the motor

i diddnet know supers had wastgates. ive never seen one with a wast gate. but as long as the pully is spinning it is making boost

RE: one more thought on the motor

isnt the term hairdryer used for turbos? just get a vortech with a built shortblock and be done with it. turbo on a mark is alot more expensive. all supercharged motors have wastegates as far as i know.

No...at idle the blower is making 0 boost. Otherwise the motor would spin out of control and burn up your tranny and brakes.

You can't be more wrong buddy.

Idle or high RPM, it doesn't matter.

They are called bypass valves and are a MUST on any supercharged setup.

RE: one more thought on the motor

Wow a lot of misconceptions in this thread! Time for some of you guys to hit hte books and study some more.

no hairdryer is a term used for front mount superchargers like the vortech/procharger. because it looks like.... a hairdryer

lol some one told me that turbos dont work because they dont have a belt going to them lol what i ricer!

but its also making 0 VAC. so the blower is still doing something. but what i meant by that is when cruising your making boost. with a turbo when you cruse you don't make boost until you step into it. while your just chillen going down the road your at pulling a vac just like a N/A motor. with a blower no matter if your cruising or hauling booty or coasting your making boost. when ever you make boost you have to add fuel to make up for it aka there goes fuel econ.

I just have to disagree. My mom's 2003 Pontiac Gran Prix GTP is boosted and has a boost gauge. It only hits positive pressure when the engine needs it (she really hits the gas). On 90% of her trips, she never hits positive pressure.
