Key Programming —New Key (45 Minute Procedure)
NOTE: This procedure is used when a customer has misplaced a key. This procedure is also used when no repair facility with diagnostic tools is available.
NOTE: To preserve the high level of protection gained by the anti-theft system, this procedure's programming takes approximately 45 minutes.
NOTE: The anti-theft system will abort initialization if the programming steps are not followed precisely. If the system aborts initialization, the process must be repeated.
Insert an unprogrammed key into the ignition switch and turn to RUN. The anti-theft indicator lamp will begin to flash. The anti-theft indicator lamp will continue to flash for 15 minutes. The ignition switch must remain in the RUN position for the entire 15 minutes. The anti-theft indicator lamp will then go out.
Within five minutes, turn the ignition switch OFF for approximately one second.
Turn the ignition switch to RUN. The anti-theft indicator lamp will begin to flash. The lamp will continue to flash for 15 minutes. The ignition switch must remain in the RUN position for the entire 15 minutes. The anti-theft indicator lamp will then go out.
Within five minutes, turn the switch OFF for one second.
Turn the ignition switch to RUN. The anti-theft indicator lamp will begin to flash. The lamp will continue to flash for 15 minutes. The ignition switch must remain in RUN for the entire 15 minutes. The anti-theft indicator lamp will then go out.
Within five minutes, turn the ignition switch OFF for one second then back to RUN. The SCIL module will have erased the previous stored codes and the new encoded key will start the vehicle.
