Scil

Does anyone know what the repercussions will be by replacing my SCIL with another used module? Will I retain my original security codes in the keyfob and on the door keypad? Will my original anti-theft coded key still allow me to start and run the engine or will I need to reprogram the keys to the new module? If so, can I do it or does the dealer have to reprogram it?

Just trying to figure this all out before the new (to me) one arrives....

Thanks.

just so you know, I can still use my keyfob on my current car that this is coming from so maybe it has nothing to do with it??

If that is so, does the dealer need to be involved? How do I do that? Owner's manual says I have to have 2 keys to reprogram another??????? I have 2 keys, but NOT programed to the new(to me) SCIL.

"Put your key in the ignition, turn it to run, wait for the Anti theft light to come on for 3 seconds then go out. Insert your second key after 15 seconds, turn to run, the light should come on for 3 seconds and go out. You are done."

Not my words, so don't shoot the messenger.

BANG!!! Didn't work....From what the manual says, I gotta take it to the dealer to have it reprogrammed.

But now comes the worse problem! I know the new SCIL would have worked as all the lighting and accessories came on. So just for giggles, I removed the new one and re-installed the original and the car starts! How LONG this old SCIL will run, I don't know....Guess I could just put the new one in the truck and if it quits again, just install the new one to get it working and re-install the old one??????

There's gotta be another problem somewhere... already spent $400.00 at the dealer to have them try to fix it and it keeps quitting about every 2-3 months!

Anyone else got any ideas what's going on here?

How many people have replaced their HID's with ebay HID's ? That's the ONLY thing I've done to the car electrically in the past few years....

I only have one, but I won't be needing it, or I can send, u can copy and send back. Or will that be too expensive?

It isn't the mechanicall key I need, it's the coded section..... I could have a duplicate made and send you back that and I keep the coded key. That way I think I could just put your key NEAR the receiver and it should start. You won't need the coded key - I have your SCIL!

FYI.... when you install a different SCIL module, what happens is that ANTI-THEFT light never goes out.... I guess it would if you used a programmed key that matched a SCIL. So if anyone sells/buys a used SCIL module, be sure to get/send the key with it! OR - be prepared to tow/get the car to the dealership to have your existing keys programmed to the new SCIL.

I'll do some more testing when I get back from vacation in two weeks. Soemthing doesn't add up. Maybe there is a way to erase a used module of all the stored keys, then the procedure is easier. Dealer wheeler .... there is gotta be a way.

Yup, called a STAR tester, I think.

But now I'm more interested to find out why the old SCIL is working again....Time to study schematics....

Jeremi, Paul has a Star tester. If you've got a spare module, we can experiment with it.:)

Or I can send this one up....maybe just erasing the memory will enable it to remember the next key in the ignition?

All I can find relative in the manual is...

NOTE: When replacing the SCIL module it is necessary to reprogram the ignition keys.

Key Programming —New Key (45 Minute Procedure)
NOTE: This procedure is used when a customer has misplaced a key. This procedure is also used when no repair facility with diagnostic tools is available.

NOTE: To preserve the high level of protection gained by the anti-theft system, this procedure's programming takes approximately 45 minutes.

NOTE: The anti-theft system will abort initialization if the programming steps are not followed precisely. If the system aborts initialization, the process must be repeated.

Insert an unprogrammed key into the ignition switch and turn to RUN. The anti-theft indicator lamp will begin to flash. The anti-theft indicator lamp will continue to flash for 15 minutes. The ignition switch must remain in the RUN position for the entire 15 minutes. The anti-theft indicator lamp will then go out.

Within five minutes, turn the ignition switch OFF for approximately one second.

Within five minutes, turn the ignition switch OFF for one second then back to RUN. The SCIL module will have erased the previous stored codes and the new encoded key will start the vehicle.

Program the additional keys; refer to Key Programming—Spare .

That says to use an "UNPROGRAMMED" key. What if you replace the SCIL and you need to re-program a key? I realize you only copied what it said.....but maybe someone else can add to this.......
