Serious engine noise!

What is the deal with the engine noise in these cars, or is it just mine? The stock amp took a @#$# on me so I had a Clarion installed. I have a Clarion head unit. Ever since, I get an intollerable engine whine through the speakers when the radio is on. There are actually two different noises. One is the noise that changes with the exceleration and the other comes on whenever the fan cuts on. How do you get rid of these noises?

You need to ground the amp better and make sure the power cables arent running next to the speaker wires.

...and make sure that ALL the grounds are still attached...hood to motor, battery ground to frame ground, exhaust pipes to ground etc, etc, etc along with the above! If it's a piece of metal on the car. make sure it's grounded to the frame somewhere...and maybe multiple places. If it moves, ground it. Have alternator and battery system tested. If you don't know DC electricity and some theory, you need to see a pro install shop.

I was in car audio business for a long time and I made a lot of money off fixing others bad wiring. Id make sure that the power cables going to the amp are 2 gage or bigger with good connections (O't or 0 gage preferred) and don’t just stop with the positive cable run the ground to the battery as well if you have a very large amp or more that one amp to save your alternator and battery from being fried all the time get a 1 ferret capacitor for the amps (an audio shop will know what it is and tell you moor about it). When running the wires to the amp run the sound wires on one side of the car and the power wires on the other side. On the head unit most aftermarket head units DO Not have noise suppressers on them. It will have 3 wires on it, you simple splice it into the main power wire and ground the third you may need one for the constant power and the switch wire.
In audio systems its similar to a motor its only going to be as good as the weakest lank. dont use cheep or bad quolity parts.

A broken motor mount wouldn't do anything, would it? The hood is Fiberglass.

The hood has a metal lining, thats why there are earth straps.

I believe the condensers on the coil packs are for ignition noise suppression - be worth making sure those connectors and grounds are clean also.

I get those funny noises sometimes - mine is due to the stock amp having an internal fault though.

sometimes bad rca cables cause that too i just went through every ground on my truck and wouldnt you know it i got mad and hit my back window where my amp was mounted and the noise went away. After more fiddling with the amps i found when you moved the input rcas the noise went away.

The other day I was sitting in my car waiting to go to class so I turned on the radio while the key was turned to accessory and I could here a steady buzzing/humming, only with the radio on. So, this was not engine noise and the fan wasn't running either. Now what could cause this? If it isn't one thing, it's another!

Did anyone mention that Clarion is not a very good brand to begin with?

It's grounded to the rear fender well. It looks to be OK. Maybe there should be something between the amp and the back of the seat?(it's bolted to the seat back).

I get the same whining noise when the factory phone is turned on....Its annoying, but then again, the phones dont work anymore, so it doesnt really matter.....just one of those things I want to be right just for the sake of everything on the car working like it should.

Id do a little test firs and turn the key on (motor not running) listen for the noise, if its there unplug the RCA and fined out is the sound is coming from the radio or the amp first. Cheep RCA can easily rub threw and short and the RCA connectors sometimes rub each other and make sounds (wrap with take). As for the GROUND its not right innless you send it back the battery. You sent the (+) direct from the battery and so should the (-). Like I seed before a good sound system is like a motor, it’s only going to be as strong as the weakest components.

I doubt this is it, but start with simple things first, right?

If you have cheap spark plugs, that can do it. You need plugs with resistors.
