Stock MAF

my car still has the factory plugs and wires in it. i get new plugs and coil packs tomorrow and i want to order MSD wires but cant find a preassembled set. are livewire wires from SCP any good?? Any other recommendations?

Get the FMS wires for the 96 - 98 Cobra, they are an exact fit and dependable. Summit has them for cheap, I'm currently out of stock.

are they oem replacement wires or performance wires. im looking to get performance from them. are you referring to ford racing wires? also, so any wires from a..lets say...1997 for mustang with the 4.6L/281 will fit?

Any wires for a 1996-1998 Cobra will fit. I like the Ford Racing wires, Taylor or Livewires. The MSD's have been good for me too.

ok so before i go wasting money here. im getting MSD wires for a 1997 Cobra DOHC model. i will order those over the weekend so if anyone knows they WILL NOT fot please let me know. Im really loving this car, never though i could have fun with a lincoln.

Yes I'm talking about the Ford Motorsport wires. They are an upgrade from stock. They are the only ones that I haven't had major problems with in that price range. The MSD wires after 5 different sets all failed on me within a year or so. The plastic molding that sits down inside the head is a two piece mold. They kept breaking down and causing the spark to arch to the heads causing a miss. The Taylor and Livewire are a waste of money IMO. Why spend that much on a set of racing wires when your setup is basically stock? Unless you have a blown application or some serious compression with nitrous and an aftermarket ignition system they aren't needed.

I agree, MSD wires are NOT what you want.

I put 2-3 sets on my car and they would "crap out" before 1 year had passed, luckily I got them replaced under warranty.

I finally gave up on the MSD crap and went with the Ford Racing Wires.
They have been on for 2 years with NO MISSES, SPUTTERING, or DIEING

M.S.D.=misses, sputters, dies

"you've been warned".

I had MSD wires on my 95 LSC for 2 years no problem.

I "suspect" that my MSD were fine up until I did my first plug change with them.

Seems if they were "left alone" and you didn't change your plugs very often, you might be ok.

THIS IS SPECULATION upon how mine were.

Since I was running the copper plugs I changed them often.
Far TOO often in fact...but that's another story.

During the two years you had them, did you change the plugs?

I was putting 50K in miles a year, so I would be changing plugs probably 3 times in two years.

The MDS wires were crapping JUST before the 1 year warranty expired.

That would mean, they got "moved around alot" once, maybe TWICE..before I developed a missfire.

FWIW: I was gentle with the wires after the first set I was VERY gentle with them, the outcome was always the same.First or second plug change... wala.. missfire, bad wire/wires

So far I am on my 3rd plug change with the Ford Racing wires, and I am being gentle with them during the plug swaps.. SO FAR so good.
Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself.

thought from the far side....

IF you have to have MSD wires.

pay particular attention to WHEN you installed them and BEFORE the 1 year warranty expires.. REPLACE them under warranty.

You might wait until it's "inspection time" that way you'll know when it's time to get inspected, you want to change the wires before you do so.

nothing will end your emissions test quicker than a MSD
{MISSING, SPUTTERING, Dying} car.
Been there.. done THAT

I changed the plugs frequently around 3 times a year as I was at the track often and used copper Autolite 103's. With that said I would go with Ford Racing wires over the MSD's. But he has the MSD blaster coils so the MSD wires would match...

my choice has nothing to do with color haha. i have the msd coils and i want to get the wires that would flow best.

That would be the Nology wires...but most folks don't want to spend $300. The MSDs are the most popular on this board for performance.

I really dont see how one particular BRAND of wire would FLOW more than another.. I mean really, we're talking about transmitting a SPARK down a cable.

Even back to back dyno tests would probably yeild no measureable difference between MSD wires and Ford Racing wires.

I chose Ford Racing wires after having the same problems reported by "others" that they msds were crapping out prematurely...it had nothing to do with "flow"... or performance, it was more a choice of "Longetivity".
