Mission: Run 3 passes using a Pro 0.400 tree after a 30 mile street run and average an ET of 14.0

... and

30 mile run? No sweat.

Two things worry me - finding the right combo to SLOW the car to 14.0 and the "new to me" Pro 0.400 tree.

If it's a typical July day in Joliet, the heat may be all that's required to slow the car to the flat 14 second range. I remember a track event last summer where it was all the Blue Flame could do to stay in the 13s. I would say I normally run 13.8-13.9 on a good hot day at a decent track with the car running well.

I'll be running a heavier set of wheels and tires as well with the Micket Thompson ET Streets Drag Radials (DOT street legal) on a set of chrome 10 spokes versus the normal Hoosier Quick Time Pros on a set of snowflakes. No front skinnies either - that will likely be a tenth right there.

You are allowed to lower the tire pressures but not add any tire pressure before any run.

You are not allowed to open the hood in the staging lanes.

I have a "switch" chip with 4 different tunes. One all-out "Race" tune, one "Dyno"-tune, one "Moderate Street" tune and one "Mild Street" tune. Of course I also have the stock setting as well. Not much differentiates the "race" and "dyno" tunes, at least at the track, and I really haven't run the street tunes enough to statistically compare them to the track tunes. But the switch chip is a huge ace in the hole should I need it.

Friday the 19th will allow time trials as well as early on the 20th before the actual event. I don't know how many trial runs I will get, but I'm going to assume very few as the track is sure to be crowded at this event.

All the usual maintenance has been done, new fuel filter, new plugs, etc...

But the Pro 0.400 tree versus the typical Sportsman 0.500 tree has me loosing sleep. I really do not know how to approach this new challenge.

Any thoughts and tips would be appreciated. I'll be on vacation the next few days but will try to check in when I can.

Wish me luck! :D

Good luck driller!!! It seems like alot of guys in the mustang magazines make one slow run and then on the last 2, they let it hang. I hope all goes well!!!

Good luck with that JP... do you know how much more the chrome 10 spokes weigh compared to the snowflakes?

Thanks - the stock 10 spoke chromes with drag radials tip the scales right at 50 pounds each compared to 35 pounds each for the Hoosiers on snowflakes. IIRC, bout 10 of those 15 pounds is the tire, so the snowflakes are about 5 pounds lighter than the chrome 10 spokes.

After looking back to 2005 track visits - I do not believe it will so too difficult to average low 14s on the drag radials with the chrome ten spokes all around.

Day one of time trials - two runs, one at 14.13 and the other 14.07 in hot and sultry weather.

The Pro 0.400 tree has me owned - 0.3xx lights both runs. Could be worse I guess, but at least it's not red lights.

The MT ET Streets drag radials are hurting my sixty foot times as well - 1.97 and 2.01 I think(the slips are in the car).

I'm satisfied so far and will be trying to improve upon it at tomorrow's time trials.

JP, I think you can do it. You may not have been as good as usual at the new tree, but I didn't see anyone else cutting better lights against you.

Today's time trial of 14.05 convinced me I am where I should be. I don't think I need to worry about a red light and if someone beats me in the 14 second index, they will have earned it. ;)

Again, thanks for all the support from everyone. :)

Here's how it ended up...

Run one - 14.038.

Run two - 14.052.

Run three - 14.034.

That averages to 14.041. :)

A valiant effort, but the 14 second index winner averaged 14.017. However, I had much better consistency as his runs ranged from like a 13.8x to a 14.2x.

I'll post more details after we get back home and rest up some. I'm whupped!

Check this out!

Little did they know there was such a thing as a legitimate 13 second LINCOLN.

According to them(note they only used the first two significant digits)...

First round - I had a 14.030 to his 13.920. That's 0.30 off for me and 0.080 off for him.

Second round - I had a 14.050 to his 14.190. That's 0.050 off for me and 0.190 off for him.

Third round - I had a 14.030 to his 13.940. That's 0.030 off for me and 0.060 off for him.

Now you tell me - who really did better? ;)

JP had a far tighter package all his runs were between .03-.05 off.

The others were "manipulating" the numbers in typical "true street fashion.

"make a hard pass, then a slow pass, then TRY to recover on the third pass".

While it worked THIS time.... over the course of many races.. JP would hand that corvette his ARSE.

They need to implement the "no sandbagging" rule... and DQ those people that do that crap.

in one of the "anti sandbag" classes here, if you dont run a certian MPH for your ET.. you are BOOTED.
If they see a brake light between the starting line and the finish line.. you are BOOTED.

If they catch you "letting off before the stripe" you are BOOTED.

JP did better, the corvette driver got lucky.

What is worse.. a 13 second Lincoln.. or a 14 second corvette?
Just the fact that JP was "that close" to the vettes times says volumes.

probably an automatic C4...LT1

C5 should be well into the 13s and some even in the 12s stock.

C6s are 12 second cars stock and some in the 11s...

BTW what is most amazing about that chart is the CJ-7 Jeep in the 8s!!! WTF? Did It have a rocket strapped to it?!

proof that anything can be made to run fast.

that's only if "ANY" of his passes were "actual WOT" full passes.

Might HAVE been a 12 second car, with a crappy driver only running mid 13's..then sandbagging his way into the 14 second bracket.. typical sandbagging crap.
