Trunk Emergency

Is it possible that you have the trunk overloaded and when you last closed the lid you had to force it down? If so maybe that pressure is holding it shut? Sounds like it fast stuck or the latching mechanism may have failed?

Did you try spraying some magic juice (WD40) into the lock and all around the trunk opening?

Locksmith?

I'm not sure if this was ever answered but the gen 1 has a separate key for the trunk. The Gen 2 has only one key for doors, ignition and trunk.

It's possible that the wires that run down the driver's side trunk hinge have worn through near the plug in the area of the quarter panel near the hinge, through the trunk trim carpet. This happened to me and I didn't have a trunk key either.

I finally got mine to work and fixed it before I closed the trunk again.

Maybe try gently bouncing your fist on the quarter panel near the trunk hinge while pushing the button on the remote. That might be enough to move the wires enough to pop the trunk.

I'd just throw some undies in the back seat and drive it to Sharon's and let the gang fix it Saturday or Friday.... while you're having a beer.

This happened to me with the blue parts car i had. It worked fine a couple dozen times, but when the guy came for the drivetrain, it wouldnt open. We had to load it up with the front shocks pretty low because i had turned the air ride off. Do you have the glitch balast? I think the reason mine didn't work is because i removed the tail light and popped the trunk afterward (not thinking) and it flew open like a mouse trap.:D maybe it opened too far:confused:

Do the gen2s have the keyless numeric pad entry? I can open my trunk with it. It's been months since I used it, but I think it's a two buttons pressed at the same time combo. Maybe the third and fifth buttons. I think the fourth and fifth lock and arm the car.

So, the Kid's g/f knew I was asking people to bring sides or whatever, and she's making something too. I tell her when Joe's coming in, she says "what's he making." My response: A martini.

First thanks for all the help!!! :D

I'm at Sharon's now... :D :D :D I took DTSax, which would have happened anyway.

When I get back to Mass next week, I'll try pounding on the rear quarter, otherwise it's gonna be a rear seat removal...

The trunk isn't loaded with stuff, only some clothes...

I was thinking about taking the MK8, which is why I spent days driving it, but it's is weeping differential fluid from what looks like the half shafts, maybe other places too... it was hard to tell... :(

Sorry to hear that you're not driving the Mark VIII.
I've never seen you drive a Mark VIII.:D

It sounds like the right decision for now though.:)

If the lock is really different, any lock smith should be able to cut you a new key in about 15 minutes. I had this done for my Cougar when I bought it, as it is different then the ignition on that car.

Or if it is a bad cylinder, maybe there might be some locksmith tricks or something?

Ok, I thought the lock was the same?

I dunno if I'm gonna bother with a lock smith, I need to get behind the seat anyway for something else... so with luck this will be a rare two birds with one whatever moment...

As it is, it'll be a project for Tuesday or Weds, when I'm back on the Cape and have sobered up (and most likely started drinking again) from the "Chicago Experience"... :D

Which everyone should go to... :D

Yea the lock should be the same, you only need one key unless for some strange reason before you got the car someone changed just the door locks and ignition lock. The valet is key is different in that it should not be able to unlock the trunk and glove box. But you don’t have one and i never got mine from the dealer.

Ok Bill... Drinks on me next time we meet... :D

You were 100% correct, so 10 points for you... :D

Every time I have the Lincoln keys, I would always hit the trunk button on the fob just in case it magically worked, and tonight it did. So the trunk opens, and I hit the button again... nothing... but since it happened to be quiet (cause I'm the only person who makes noise (or is awake) at 12:30 in the morning in my neighborhood) I could hear the relay under the hood clicking, so I knew that at least the car was receiving the signal from the key fob, and power should have been getting to the trunk.

So I get into the trunk, thinking about the lack or an emergence release, to check the wires Bill had mentioned to me, and sure enough, they were completely severed. So a quick patch up job, and a little cutting away of the carpet so that they won't continue rubbing, and the problem seems to be solved. :D

Thanks again Bill!!! :D :D :D

If I was going to guess, I was say because the key has almost never been used to open the trunk, so the trunk lock isn't worn out, while the key itself is slightly worn down...

Glad it finally worked for you. Congrats. That is weird. I might have to make sure it's not going to be a problem on mine.

OK...everyone go see if they open their trunk with the key...... Yup! Mine worked...I'd never used it before.

I tired mine when Joe first asked this question, 11 years and 134k miles of using the same key and the trunk opened right up and I can't remember ever using it before too. lol
