Turn Signal Question

I don't have a MarkV111 but an Audi but my question should apply to any car.

My problem is my turn signals stopped working. I checked the fuses and they looked OK.

I haven't checked the bulbs because both turn signals went out at the same time.

I don't know what a flasher is. I tried the hazard and they work, brake lighta work and the turn signal lights come on but won't flash. It really sounds like a fuse.

Any other car uses a "flasher" to make the lamps go on and off. It's either a can or other electrical devise that times the voltage out to the lamp circuit. Look at your manual.

Thank you all! I checked my manual and it doesn't say anything about a flasher.

Did you try to find an Audi forum?:)

Yes I just found one and posted the same question. Let's see what happens. I really don't want to take it to the dealer because this car is so expensive to work on. I just got a quote for a tuneup and it was $800. That was the same price they charged me to do my brakes because you can't turn the rotors.

Next time buy a Lincoln :)

In case you didn't see this:

Re Audi A3 indicator problems. I had this fault on my 02 A3. Being me when I had it out I discovered that it comes apart quite easily. A simple rub between the relay contact points with fine emery and problem solved. No need for a new relay.
Cheers,

Well, I guessed at the age of your Audi, and found the following. Perhaps it applies? the symptoms seem right.

So the flasher module might be built into the switch?

edit: oops. What Driller said. this whole "second page of comments" thing gets me once in a while. :D

2001 Audi A6 Turn Signal not Blinking?
Hi,
I have a 2001 Audi A6 2.7Q and my turn signals are not blinking on both sides. But when I turn on my hazard lights they seem to blink just fine. I tried to replace the fuses for the signal lights but they work for a moment and then goes back to not blinking again. Before all this had happened I noticed a stranger clicking noise coming from the AC/Heater Vents. The noise would come on after every turn signal usuage. Now I'm guessing it had to do something with the turn signals. Can someone please help me out.

Thanks,

The hazard light switch is the flasher relay. If you're hearing weird noises its most likely this relay. You can try hitting the top of the dash while its messing up to verify the problem. You'll need to pull the trim off around the switch. Start with the corners and work inward with a curved or a 90 degree pick. The trim will come off and you'll be able to pry out the switch and install a new one. If the problem is still there, you're gonna need to replace the turn signal switch. This is a much less common problem but I have seen it. Good luck. Hope this helps.
