Vista Is Outta Here

Do you realize I dont own a MAC, I own a Mac.....

Yes, they uses a very similar processor and in most cases the same.

The Continental also used a 4.6L DOHC like the Mark....

Its not about the central processing/power unit, its about the bus/drivetrain.

And your point is?

Mac or MAC whatever.
Processor and memory
2.0GHz or 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, or 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme processor
4MB shared L2 cache at full processor speed
800MHz system bus
1GB (one SO-DIMM) of PC2-5300 (667MHz) DDR2 memory
Two SO-DIMM slots support up to 4GB

Specs for my PC Front-side bus (processor dependent) 1333/1066/800 MHz

At least 800...

You have no point sir.

I built this system in Oct of last year, and purchased a builders copy of Vista Ultimate 64 and have had no problems with it since the initial install and the driver update search for some of my components.

Huh?

First a MAC is a protocol used for networking: MAC address

I use a Mac, short for Macintosh. BIG difference although my Mac has three MACS, one for wireless, one for wired ethernet and one for bluetooth.

But I dont see your point, your comparing processor specs? I said the bus is the different. The I/O controllers, etc.... I take it you dont know much about computers. Thats cool.

$2K to upgrade a Mac? Upgrade to what? The only upgrade i spent in the last three years is $129 to the new Leopard operating system.

You obviously don't do anything more than email and web surfing.

Anybody who does hardcore stuff like gaming needs to upgrade at least once a year...MACs included.

I always laugh at that, especially since a comparable spec'd PC is MORE expensive than a Mac!

Use what works best for you though.

I just like that fact that I have never had to deal with a virus, registry problem, loss of data or DRIVERS! Been down that driver road with Dells at work. I never understood why the 98/ME/XP... etc... do not come with all the drivers???

So for me a Mac works best. My time is to valuable to me to deal with all the problems Windows brings. Linux or OS X all the way!

What about guys like me who like to play games? I like the hundred-fold quantity of games that can be had for a PC over the MAC...

If you just an internet/e-mailing person. PCs are fine is you feel the urge to play with anti-virus software/spyware and payiing $40 for a decent package to combat that.

If you an audio pro/graphics pro/web designer then the Mac works great! If your an IT guy who runs a server farm, etc... go with Unix/Linux flavors.

The right tool for the right job!

Just can't get find a good selection of games for the MAC though...as capable as the system might be at running them.

Ok.. the next person who calls a Mac a MAC is obviously NOT a hardcore computer user.... nuff said! lol

Game consoles are for games, not computers. If you are indeed a "hardcore" gamer, you would know that. Again, nuff said! lol

You're arguing semantics because you fail to back up your point with any kind of solid data. You have yet to prove how a "Mac" is superior to a PC via hardware only.

Case closed for me.

Gaming is hardcore? LOL

You're kidding right?

Gaming by far consumes the most resources on any given computer. The only reason to keep upgrading a computer every 6-12 montyhs is to keep up with the latest gaming software and graphics.

1. See Max's response regarding semantics. WHAT DOES CAPITALIZING AN ABBREVIATION HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING? IN A TEXT MESSAGE IT INDICATES THAT I AM OVERLY EXPRESSIVE OR ANGRY...LIKE THE TYPICAL MAC USER WHEN SOMEONE EVEN MENTIONS PC OR WINDOWS.

2. Computers still continue to stay one step ahead of consoles as far as computation and graphics and audio are concerned. So yes, the best gaming experience is had on a computer.

3. PC games not hardcore? What is the #1 online multiplayer game right now on any game platform? (Hint - the acronym is WOW)

Last question: Why is it that the MAC users appear to be resorting to personal attacks on a far greater scale than their PC using counterparts in this thread?

Well, I'll chime in. The kid installed Vista and seems absolutely happy with it. And he's a hardcore gamer (Guildwars).

My computer usually suffices for what I need, but yes, the games I play take up huge amounts of resources, and actually it would cost me quite a lot to have to replace them (sims, Civ IV - mostly, but not exclusively) with Mac versions. If they even come out for Macs.

So perhaps it just like I think Unity said above, depends on what your needs are. The only times I have real virus problems are when I'm gone from home and Hubby starts surfing porn on this computer. I clean it up with a free anti-virus and we're good to go.

Wow. Um, I talked about the system bus and you quoted the processor specs? And I never once said they were superior, just better built. Get off your horse man!

I am talking about IO controllers from the I/O system to the buss controller to the firewire chips. All name brand and not some cheap knock offs found in low priced PCs.

Analogy: I am talking about a Ford being built with Ford parts and you are talking about a Ford with a Ford engine but the rest built with Duralast.

In the industry we call people like you "spec geeks". Its like knowing how fast a car can go but not knowing what a crank shaft is :D lol

See my response to that, not worth repeating.

Apparently you are not a gamer. And FYI, WoW is not a resource hog at all. You do not need the latest hardware at all to play it to get the most out of it.

Popular = Hardcore? So even if a game is not a resource hog you need to upgrade your computer because its popular?

I assume your not talking about me, because if you used a Mac once you may as well call yourself a "Mac user". I never once said I only use Mac, I also use Unix, Linux and even the BeOS. So yes, I have used a Mac and that would make me a Mac user.

Besides, this is suppose to be about Windows versus all the other OSes out there. You "PC" users are the ones, as usual, twisted the thread to put down the Mac platform or anything else out there.

Now go back to playing WoW in your parents basement :)

Cheers!

A MAC (or Mac) is neither...it's an Apple!
