Vlcm?

I've been without a car for about a month now trying to figure out what's been wrong with it.

I was having problems with the car over heating, it turns out the fan was only working sometimes before it completely died.

Found out my A/C clutch was not engaging also, and read the two parts were related by the VLCM.

JUST replaced it about 5 min ago, and neither the cooling fan or A/C clutch will engage.

My car's a 98 and the guy i ordered the VLCM from sent me a unit from a 96 and told me it was compatible with the 98.

I know nothing about electrical systems, please help :frown:

I have no idea. I was hoping one of you guys would know.

The guy i ordered it from told me it would work on my 98, I have no clue though.. Put it in and still doesn't work

Do any of you know off hand where the relay is located?

are you sure you bought it off us because WE KNOW 96 only fits 96. we would have never sold you one for a 96 if we knew your car was a 98 never. we've been doing this for 11 years, we wont make a simple mistake like that.

Yes, i called the phone number at the bottom of your profile 727-789-6474 unless its a new business now

the guy that I spoke with was Peter Leveielle. *edit* (I think it was Peter, thats who the check was made out to)

Could i exchange it for a 98?

I asked him a couple of times if a 96 VLCM (that he wanted to send me) would work on a 98 and he assured me it would. And i sent a note the year of the car with the check i sent.

well all i can say is call peter because that isnt me! i wouldnt have sold you a 96 for a 98 because i know it wont work, he should have known too, but he is terminally ill and losing memory so anything is possible but i would think he would have known better. there isnt anything i can do for you though, you'll have to call him and figure it out if you dealt with him.

Its ok, I don't want you to be under the impression I'm raving mad or anything. I mean it stinks that i still have no car but mix ups happen. I'll call tomorrow.

Sorry about your friend.. :frown:

Edit googling this part number comes up 98 but its date stamped 22 Aug 1996 on the sticker. The stamp on the VLCM that i pulled off my 98 read year 1998?

Ignore the date stamp and go by the part number. You should be able to use that one on your 98. It's for a 97, and I believe they are the same.

Ok, the part number you have is correct. The F7 p/n is used for both 97 and 98. You simply received an early build F7 vlcm. No biggie.

Alright cool.

Does anyone know if there's a relay that controls both the A/C clutch and the fan then? How do i check relays?

ha nope. i feel dumb

Still stuck though because now i don't know what to change, i have to go back down south and check the fuses

Is there anything else that it could be besides fuses and VLCM?

Are you positive that the A/C clutch is adjusted correctly? If A/C does not engage, your cooling fan prob won't come on either...... Is the CLUTCH ENGAGING?

the clutch is not engaging atall.

Im pretty sure the clutch itself is fine. Could low freon levels cause it too?

If the clutch is not adjusted to 0.014"-0.033", it will NOT engage. It is adjusted by removing (or adding) shims. You do NOT have to evac or release the freon to do this.
