Wipers will not shut off

Hello all.. For the first time today, I find that my wipers will not shut off. I do not have delay and it acts like either low isnt working or the high speed isnt working. Either way, the wipers run back and forth and refuse to shut off unless I turn the car off and open the door. I go to start the car back up and they stay off. I would imagine its the multifunction but wasnt sure if anyone else has had the same experience. I did a search and could only find a couple posts but never mentioned what the fix was. Any thoughts? Thanks

The multifunction switch is bad, sounds like its stuck on until you turn the car off. Go to your local Napa autoparts, they now sell the same exact switch you get at Ford, but for only 30 bucks!

Thanks for your help. I will have to look into this. I found a switch at AutoZone online and was listed for $280. I found that to be rather high.

Are you sure Napa has this part? I called a local Napa dealer and he said they had no listing on it. If I can't find one then I guess I will need to go used.

100% positive....thats why Ford doesn't sell it anymore. My Ford parts guy told me the Napa secret and thats how I found out about them. :) Oh....and AutoZone sucks.

That dimmer switch looks nothing like what is in my Mark 8. If anything, it looks like one that would fit my mustang. Also, from what I understand, the part that mounts to the steering column is a full circle, not just the half.

jesse the links for napa you have are for a 93-96 mf switch, the 97 and 98 switch is almost 300 bucks i believe.
this is what a 97-98 one looks like, i have this one on ebay but the chrome button is broken, thats why i didnt tell you guys i had one for sale, i know i wouldnt want it, unless you can figure out a way to fix the chrome button.

You're right, I've been thinking it was a Gen 1 this entire time! Lol! I doubt Napa will have anything like that, lol. Nope....they didn't have it, I'm sorry man. :(

I would put that one to my list of dumb things that Ford has done in the past. Why would you change the design of the multifunction switch to be so different from previous years? I saw that listing on ebay. There is a listing on ebay for a used one for around $55 or so. It appears to be from an ebay dealer that you see towards the end of the search items. I may have to go with that one

I managed to find me another switch for $45 shipped. I have had experience pulling a couple steering wheels of my Mustang and a SHO that I once owned. Removing the steering on my Mark is a pain. Somehow, I managed to screw up one of the threaded holes in the steering wheel. I had the puller installed properly but couldnt get the wheel to budge. After working on it for 5 minutes, the puller began to move somewhat, assuming the wheel was pulling outwards. Before I had realized, the bolt popped out along wiht the threads. I have no idea what I will do now.

Here's what you do.....

Partially install the bolt back into the end of the steering column, sit in the driver's seat and grab the wheel at 9 and 3(oclock) and pull back towards you with all your might. Simultaniously, have someone hit the bolt(not too hard) with a plastic malet or a piece of wood and a metal hammer. After a couple hits, the wheel will "pop" loose but only loosen to the bolt that you installed. (That way you don't smack yourself in the face with the steering wheel, lol) Once the wheel is loose, just unscrew the bolt and continue changing the MFS.

I tried that for the exception of hitting the bolt. Anyway, I ended up renting a 2 jar gear puller from Autozone. It had a long enough hook to go behind the aluminum base of the steering wheel. I ended up pulling it off with that. yay..

I put the new multi-function switch in and guess what.. the wipers continue to run non stop. I wasnt really amused when I realized this. I found the delay module to see if it was bad. Unfortunately I do not know how to check it. I go to unplug it and the wipers shut off completely. duh! So now I am torn between buying a new wiper motor or buying a new module. Any ideas on where to start? Thanks

I'd go find a wiper motor from a junker....must be more than just Mark's to get one from...anyone know? When mine started doing that it was still under warranty...they replaced the motor.

I do not recall ever hearing of a delay module failure. My money is on the wiper motor, but that's a guess and your guess is as good as mine.

I don't have my manuals with me out of town but there's like 20+ pages of troubleshooting for the Mark VIII wiper system. Insane!
