Wipers will not shut off

I will probably end up going with an Autozone motor. It is a Cardone for $54 plus the core. I found a couple used ones on ebay for $15 but they want around $18 to ship. I might as well get a new one for that.

my guess is the wiper delay module. not the wiper motor. we list a wiper delay module on ebay every week. i have a box of them, and we sell one almost every week, they do fail, just like any other electrical module, i have personally changed 2 for customers at my shop and fixed one that wouldnt shut off, and another that worked intermidiately. im not saying your motor cant be bad, but its a hell of alot easier to try a module first, chaning the wiper motor sucks, and requires pulling the hood off too.

It requires removing the hood? Hmmm.. Maybe I will try for another module. How much do you sell them for? This module, is it called a delay module or a wiper governor? Rockauto lists a 'governor' for $62.79 part #SW5665 YF1Z17C476AA

Jr, there is a procedure to test if the problem is the motor or the module. If you don't have the Lincoln Maint Manual yet, you really ought to consider getting one. I got mine on ebay a few years ago...rather inexepensive and handy...to list the things you need to test to do this would be a job...I think there are like 16 pages or something like that. But it sure beats throwing parts at it until you happen to find the right one...or worse, finding out it wasn't a part, but a broken wire or a fuse......Good luck.

I managed to come across a delay module from a 93 SHO. It is the same module. Anyway, it didnt solve my problem. So I have replaced the Multifunction switch, checked the delay module, and still no improvement. It must be the motor. As far as the fuse, I didnt check this but I would imagine that if the fuse were blown I would get no wipers at all. I already ordered a new motor. It will be here Tuesday. Btw, how in the heck do you get this motor out? It seems to be buried behind the upper intake.

I will have to look for a maintenance manual. Thanks for the help

I do not have the Gen2 manual, but surely you do not have to remove the hood to replace the wiper motor!

If the motor won't shut off, I agree it may be a delay module, but I've not seen it posted often. Just because you sell them all the time on eBay doesn't mean they're symptomatic to the problem, it could just be people throwing parts at the wiper problem.

I have the '93 manual, but I doubt that would help much with the '98. Let's just hope it's not related to the SCIL module.

No JP, it doesn't. My money is on the wiper motor...seeing he already changed out the module with a working one.

I think if you remove the cowl, you'll be able to see it.

Are you referring to the black plastic piece that attaches under the cowl? It runs from side to side and the rubber weather strip attaches to that and the upper plastic cowl piece?

well if you dont have to remove the hood, then have fun trying to get that wiper cowel and wiper motor assembly out with the hood on lol. maybe if you dont like your paint you could try it with the hood on, everyone i have changed i have removed the hood as a precaution as to not wreck the paint, besides, its a hell of alot easier with the hood out of the way instead of bending over the fender and jamming your head and arms down in there blind, but what do i know!!!

so jruppert, you got an extra MFS for me ? lol

That is another story.. The switch that I got had no wire coming off the front that connects to the air bag. I had to take this new switch apart and swap the ribbon that is coiled up inside the round part of the switch. Other then that, there is nothing wrong with the switch.

I put in a new wiper motor and it fixed my wipers not shutting off issue. However, this new motor makes noise when 'parking'. Maybe I should return it?

Where did you get it? If dealer or store locally, take it by and let them listen and let them make the decision.
