Would someone please come over here & talk Town Cars with me. :( I am fed up with people complaining on this board, about this board. Talk friggen cars! I don't give a goat's rump about politics or religion or whatever.

Who knows anything about Special Edition Town cars?? There's a web site actually called "Special Edition Town Cars" ~ I joined it. No Fun. Nobody knows squat, except me, so it turned into an "Ask Sandy a Question" site. I have pretty much left {quietly} out the back door.

RE: Would someone please

My Dad still has his '85 Town Car. It is grey with a full vinyl roof and has the premium sound system as the only option. The only unusual thing about is that is a late year production car that already has the third brake light that was mandated for the 1986 models. The car is near mint, but has not run in years.

RE: Would someone please

Must be very, very, very, very late 1985 !!! e-mail me the last 6 VIN and I'll tell you how many from the last one!

RE: Would someone please

The only thing I know about Town Cars is when I did a lot of travel at my last job they came and picked me up in one to take me to the airport. :)

RE: Would someone please

I drove a loaner Town Car once. I think it was getting 10 mpg. Nice smooth ride, but I missed my Mark.

RE: Would someone please

But but I don’t know noth’in about town cars, cept maybe about the 90 my brother had, well until about 6 weeks after I got my VIII, you know, can’t have little brother driving a newer car then he so he traded it on a Dodge(LHS) and spent the next year complaining about the ride of it.

Then there were the TC’s around the Ford dealer that I spent a bit of time working at as a youg’in. 75/76 model years, you remember, the TC.s that should have been licensed as a small state instead of a car. You’d remember that time period Sandy, when it was said: “on a quiet night if you listen real close you can hear the fords rust”

RE: Would someone please

Well, Sandy - the problem is, so few of us know anything about these cars, you'll end up doing all the talking.:) I think they're really nice, just that one would be too big a car for me, since I rarely have anyone in my car besides my G.F. That's why I'm so dissappointed Ford/Lincoln hasn't come out with a nice 2 door replacement...

RE: Would someone please

Okay. A couple of points to be made.
The 2003 Town Car is 75% all new underneath. It's unlike any prior Town Car. I am averaging 19 MPG 'round town. It's satin-ee smooth and handles extremely well. All of the geometry underneath is new and it will out-handle a deVille or Concorde Limited. (Biggest, most expensive Chrysler)...
The ride is so hushed and quiet it begs to be experienced.

2nd Point

In 1975 I was in a big accident. I was "T-Boned" by a 19 year old who stole a garbage truck (of all things) and was running away from the ensuing police car in chase. He slammed into me in the passenger side rear quarter panel. My ride did a 360 spin and came out of it with enough torque to slam head on into a fire hydrant. I was shook up, but 100% okay & not injured. I was in my Mom's 1974 Imperial Coupe, all 5,100 pounds of it. http://www.imperialclub.com/YearbyYear/1975/wpc/74b.jpg

Had I been in my demo (at the time 1975 I was selling Dodges and my demo was a Dodge Dart) I probably would been hurt.
Since then I have only bought big cars, but cars began getting smaller & smaller. The ascMcLarens are small (well, Mustang sized) and the Demos I drove were all small. With all of the HUGE SUVs out there, I decided after the Mark VIII that I wanted the biggest domestic I could find (car) & the T.C. was that.

3rd Point

The T.C. has sorta a grey cloud over it. I am really not too familiar with the reliability or performance of the 1980s versions, but this 2003 is a very impressive car. I remember, I am coming to it, from a Mark VIII - so I am comparing it to and with the Mark VIII.
The Mark handles better, but not by alot. The Mark has more road feel, but the T.C. is alot quieter & smoother. I miss the built in voice activated phone, and I curse Lincoln for not taking the one out of the Volvo S80 (2003) and putting it into the Town Car. THAT phone is a masterpiece! Mercedes has it, too. (and) So does Jaguar. Since Ford owns Volvo & Jag, why didnt they put that phone into the T.C.? Bums! I really miss the phone! The trunk in the T.C. is 2x the size of the Mark VIII and has a power shut & lock.

4th point

I am dealing with late night overpowering desires to take a ride to Newark Airport! But, being Silver-Green and not black or navy, I'd probably get no riders anyhow. :)

RE: Would someone please

>> I am averaging 19 MPG 'round town.

Does the T.C have a computer readout like the Mark VIII? That's pretty good mileage. My Mark with the DOHC 4.6 avreages 19.2 mpg overall city/highway - if I never reset the mileage, that's where it goes and stays after a couple tankfuls. My T-Bird with the SOHC 4.6, (like your T.C.), only averages about 17/18 combined, (no computer readout, though). I attribute a lot of that to the way the tranny operates in the T-Bird. It doesn't lock up near as much as the Mark VIII, so there's a lot more rev movement during normal driving.

How much does the T.C. weigh? 19 mpg seems pretty good for such a big car.

On another note, there's a red 98 Mark VIII CE with 19K miles for sale at under $16K that I know about. But it's too far to just drive over. I'm really tempted, though...

RE: Would someone please

A board member on the Dark Side (Dawn Darling) asked a Town Car question. I emailed her and suggested she come over here and ask you.

RE: Would someone please

Yes, John - it has the MPG computer readout and it weighs 4,310 lbs. A keen driver can feel the tranny shift, but is so super smooth in shifts that it IS difficult. It shifts at lower RPMs than the Mark 8 and does not seem to haaaang up as long in any one gear. The power surge come on early and the power band probably looks something like /\ :) The H.P. is 235 and the Torque is 275. Axle is 3.27:1 I do believe. It's NOT a performance car, but it can get & 'n go if needed. Passing on the highway is no problem. Racing a 295HP Mark VIII would be difficult over 50 MPH > It was a tradeoff of performance (I'm not really into that any longer) -VS- comfort, weight & size.

RE: Would someone please

Sorry I don't have much to say... other than the new ones are pretty sharp looking, and I wouldn't mind if someone gave me one to drive....

RE: Would someone please

I am a real believer in owning a big car for protection in accidents, just like your Imperial provided. My wife loves Lincolns and we have owned various models of TCs and Marks since the mid 70's. I truely enjoyed my '77 Mark V Cartier with it's 460CID engine. To me it remains the BEST looking Mark ever made, and it could really move. Its' inability to pass gas stations and transmission woes were the downside. Subsequent models I owned with the 400 engine were dogs, as were our early 80's TCs. We continued to stay with Lincolns because of their safety ratings, size, ride, and in recent years, the driver adjustable pedals option. My wife is a "shortie" and requires them to stay the recommended safe distance away from the air bag. Its' ride is really first rate, and we prefer it for our extended road trips. Gas mileage has been good considering my wife's "heavy" foot ; 14 mpg around town as our teenagers short hop taxi, and mid 20's fully loaded w/AC and cruise over the road.
Our only gripe with our '02 is that it's steering wheel is a bit too thick. Both my wife and I experience numb and cramped hands after an hour or so of driving it. This has never occured with any of our other vehicles. I guess about 10 years from now when arthritis sets in we'll need the thicker wheel.
Best of luck with your new ride Sandy, hope you enjoy many safe miles in it.

02 Town Car Blk on White

MY GOD........T H A T IS MY FAVORITE COLOR COMBO !!!!!!

I wanted that, but they dropped White leather for 2003. Do you have a photo of it that I might have? I have NEVER seen that combo - but I knew it was out there!!! Few were made....very very few!

RE: Would someone please

I think that my description misled you. The TC is white with a black cloth top, and full chrome treatment. Interior is light grey, sorry for the confusion.

RE: Would someone please

Figures....Just when I thought I have found one.

I wanted one LAST year, but timing wasn't right for me. I wanted a black Town Car, with the white leather interior. The dropped the white leather after offering it since the mid-1970s. 1 year too soon for me! :(

RE: Would someone please

Sandy, I'm not real sure, but I may have seen your proverbial Black/White TownCar. My wife and I were cruisin' the local FLM lot a couple of weekends ago after hours and they had a black TownCar(2000?) with a white interior. Very nice looking ride. I commented to my better half how good she would look in a big Lincoln. I lost interest when she commented the Mark VIII would have to move outside the garage if we traded her Sable for the TownCar. I did not realize at the time it would've been a rare find. I'll have to stop back and take another peek?

On another note, she lit up at the sight of a red late model Mustang with white leather interior and white convertible top! She was a gaga all over it(mid-life crisis?) but it had no window sticker. Turns out to have been 1999(or 2000?) with a 6 cylinder & automatic. They wanted over $17K for it... claiming it was special order seats, top, etc for a local radio DJ! It was a looker but too bad he didn't order the engine with it!!!

I almost bet if I stop back in, the TC will be gone and the 'stang will still be there.

RE: Would someone please

'Ya, I was near broken hearted when I grabbed the color & trim book, last December, only to find white leather had been canned! The striking contrast between the black & the white is very sporting & yet elegant! It stands out in a virtual sea of silver town cars with grey interior, or black with gray or white with grey or navy with grey (see a pattern here..........) :(

RE: Would someone please

When I was having work done on the Mark CE the dealership gave us a big black TC to drive at no charge. (From a rental lot)We ended up driving to the Colorado River 2 times from San Diego. Being BLACK and in California most people got out of my way.(CHP's have big black cars) One guy was really pissed when he slammed out of the way and then realized that he had slowed down and pulled over for the "mafia". He finally gave up as the TC would cruise at three numbers real easy.
Later, when I was in a parking lot someone backed into it with a 2x4. Right smack into the hood. I smoothed it out and washed and waxed the hood before I took it back and they said wow, you really take good care of your cars.
Of course we always drove the TC's when I was an design engineer at the Ford plant in Livonia, Mich.
