Would someone please

RE: Would someone please

Sandy,

I'm going to send you my brother's email address...check your mail. He stays pretty up to date on the T/C's. He's driving a white/gray 2000 model that I call his "extended cab" Town Car since it's a bit longer than the standard model.

RE: Would someone please

Marcia, I was kinda looking for anyone who had one of the annual Mid-Year special packages. I am very familiar with the Executive "L" and the Cartier "L". I might have bought one, but due to the sectioned roof, to elongate it, a moonroof is not available, in order to pass structural strength standards. {Gotta have my moonroof ~ 'ya know :)}.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Jack Nicholhaus Edition, the Spinnaker Edition, the Black Tie Edition, the Pearlescent Gold & White Edition, the Sail-Boat Edition, the America's Cup Edition, the Ruby & Platinum Edition, and of course, my Limited Edition that Lincoln has fielded over the past 17 years. Oh, I forgot, the Cypress Editions of 96, 97 & '01.

RE: Would someone please

I've seen the Jack Nicklaus edition...it was either white with a dark green interior or dark green with a white interior (senior moment, better known as brain fart!!!!HEEHEEE!!!!).

RE: Would someone please

Sandy,
It sounds like you're a little down on the '80's TC's. Those are my favorites. Since my kid wrecked my '88 Colony Park, I might just try to pick up a good '89 TC cheap, if its in good shape. I was working at the Lincoln Mercury dealer here in '89-90 and I thought that they just destroyed the TC with the redesign in '90. I remember that for the Christmas holiday, I drove a trade-in '87 (I think, I'm afraid you'll check) that had a frosted silver pearl paint. Depending on how you looked, it was almost white, then silver. I loved that car, but couldn't afford it. I tried to get my dad to buy it so I could just look at it and enjoy it. I love the fenders coming to a point at the turn signal and the tall, proud grill, like my Mark V.

RE: Would someone please

Oh no, far from it! I love the 1980's Town Cars. As a matter of fact, I love 95% of all Town Cars, DeVilles, Fleetwoods, Sevilles and {chrysler} IMPRIALS ! I am a big luxury car fan to the bone. As posted many times before, my folks raised me on a constant succession of Imperials. When the Imperial ended in 1978, they kept the last one for a few years and then went over to Lincoln. (1982). Well, they had only the one Lincoln, when my Dad passed away and Mom kept it until she died as well. Me? I've had 3 Lincolns and a Fleetwood.

Most interesting is/was your end-of-the-run Colony Park ! Now, THAT IS TOO BAD what happened to it!

Our neighbors were the owners of the Maplecrest L~M that I always speak of on LOD, the "the Mrs." always drove a Colony Park 9-Passenger, well until the end anyhow.

I also liked the 1986 Town Car Sail Boat Edition. White with blue carriage top and white leather piped in dark blue, dk. blue rugs & dash. Pretty car.

RE: Would someone please

Sandy,
It really is a shame about the Colony Park. It was a real nice, well-kept car, barely showing its age but the O/D dropped out of the tranny and it had a couple little glitches here and there. Nothing big really. My kid was driving it and hit another car. It wasn't a real hard hit, but it bent the hood and rad cradle back, pushed the fender into the door and shattered the front valance. I toyed with fixing it, but I met a guy with a customized wagon that was looking for a parts car, so I sold it to him. He wanted the turbine wheels and tailgate window weatherstrip, mostly. The rest of the car was a bonus for him. I think he's going to use the interior from the '88 into his '84. His car has no power seats and mine had dual power, plus he can use the door panels so it'll be a nice conversion. The interiors are both red.

Its a tragic end to a real nice car. The upside is that I spent $1800 total on the car, got $1500 from the insurance co and sold the wreck for $500 and got a winter's worth of driving out of it. Now, I just hope my insurance co. will renew after making a (not at fault) claim.

RE: Would someone please

I know those turbine rims & I like them! The Town Cars of the vintage shared them, too.

RE: Would someone please

My Mark V has the turbine rims. It seems they were around a long time.

RE: Would someone please

Sandy,

My mom is still driving the 96 Jack Nicklaus edition my dad bought to replace his 85 (I think) TC. Very sweet car and still looks very up to date in my opinion. It is white on white with the green carpet. I always enjoy driving it. She complains of the ride in my Mark b/c she is so used to the ultra smooth TC ride. I kind of wish the Mark rode that way more. The only thing wrong with it is that it pings a bit under heavier acceleration. But it still can get up and go pretty good for such a fatty. I am glad to hear that you are liking the new TC so much. I would like to try one out. My previous car was an 89 Crown Vic LX. I always liked the ride in that too, it was pretty cushy. No comparison to the Lincoln though. And powerwise, the Mark VIII wins me over every time. I am young and love the personal luxury coupe action.

RE: Would someone please

Hi Craig! :)
Mom has an EXTREMELY RARE Townie! Something like 90% of the J. Nicklaus Editions were the Deep Vibrant Green color. White was a seldom-seen color offered as an alternative. It accounted for under 10% of J.N. production.
There are several J.N. over at the Town Car Board, but they are all (of course) green.
I too love the silky smooth ride of the Townie. Tell mom to switch brands of gas and buy a higher octane level. The following brands are the ones I suggest: Amoco, Sunoco, Shell, Texaco, Getty, Exxon & Gulf. I'd steer clear of Citgo and off brands. The pinging should clear up in 100 miles.

PS/ I am Young at heart (56 in years) and I love coupes too ~ there just aren't any left to buy any longer :( or I definately would. I'd like to see a Mark 9. Pontiac Grand Prix dropped its coupe even in 2003. Monte Carlo is the sole choice for a full sized American Coupe.

RE: Would someone please

That's cool. I didn't know they were so rare. We have Quiktrip where she lives, which I think is pretty good. But I think she does put 87 in there.

On the other topic, at least Pontiac is doing the GTO. That should be a bit of fresh energy. Ford just needs to get the Aussie GT over here now and we can start the musclecar wars again.

RE: Would someone please

Both of them lack STAND OUT styling and are heavy on "me-too" looks. The GTO shows more promise IMO, but lacks all GTO styling cues, so important in re-launching a car now gone for 2 generations ! (1974 was the last one - allthough there were a handful of 1975s made for the Canadian market, that have "wandered" back into America. As one who was present & accounted for during the 1964-1974 reign-of-GTO-terror, this new car is too "cream-of-wheat" mild. It needs the STYLING STUFF of days-gone-by!!

Hood Mounted Tach
Red-Line Tires
Hood Scoops
Unique BOLD front end & grille
Spoiler
Original Rallye Wheels
Dash Mtd. Assist Grap Handle
Dual-Dual chromed exhaust "spliters"
Wood Grain Steering Wheel Rim
and for God Sakes, the ORIGINAL GTO emblems, not some watered down wimpy stylized version!

Under the hood, chromed some stuff, like in olden days.

IF the 20 somethings will not "respond" DEFINATELY the 50 somethings will :) :) !!!!!!!!!

RE: Would someone please

Unfortunately nobody knows how to adapt musclecar styling to the Honda age. Everyone is too afraid to push the envelope. Also the size of the cars limits what kind of elements look good I think. You have to have a bigger canvas to communicate the message that the old school bad boys did. You can only go retro to a certain extent and still look good. The GT40 is a good example, they only shrank it by a few inches.

RE: Would someone please

That new GTO is not small. Well, not so small that it could'nt wear Rally II wheels, & red lines & a hood Mtd. Tach and 2 slightly smaller scoops. This car is definately NOT for today's Asian Ricer look. The target market is exactly ME (or my group) better defined as the first group of baby boomers....those born between 1944 and 1954. The car aimed at the 1944 to 1950 babies, today 47 to 55 years of age, grown children, out of the house, looking to "relive" the fun they had when teens and early 20s, before Viet Nam took the fun away.
Trust me, I went to the GTO Nationals for the East Coast this past weekend...... THEY DO REMEMBER ! 300 pristine concours mint 95-100 Pt. cars on display. Most of them are driving Grand Prix Sedans as "daily drivers" and are not overly impressed with the style of the new Goat. They like the RWD, and the engine in them, but the style to them looks Chevy Malibu from 10 years ago.

RE: Would someone please

Sandy,

the GTO was before my time. Born in 1975. I agree with you, the new GTO needs some more styling. My uncle had a 1967 GTO and it was great. love the look. The car companies need to start making some differences in thier products. Look at what the viper did for Dodge. I feel that many people my age would love to have a new car like the old GTO. Give us some choices please..............

RE: Would someone please

There is NO WAY I could EVER re-live it for you, the time, the era, the GTO. The biggest and most successful marketing blitz ever to hit America! Smack in the middle of the Baby Boomer's 18th year, the GTO took the nation by storm, there was GTO shoes from Thomm McCan, GTO cigarettes, GTO this & GTO that! 2 Songs, GTO by Ronnie & the Daytonas and My Little GTO by Jan & Dean took over the air waves over & over again, seemingly every Summer from 1966 thru 1969. Only the original Mustang 1964.5-1967 ever topped it, and not by much!

It was a different time & a different place. Nobody would dare to buy a "Foreign Car" ~ Patriotism was at an all time high, excepting Viet Nam were 1,000s of young people did not wanna go. Incomes had kept ahead of inflation, unemployment was ultra low as products were made here in the states, and adults had more discressionary income.
It was indeed, a great time to grow in in an upper middle class suburban enviornment among all the GTOs!

RE: Would someone please

Hey Sandy, I messed up on the year of my mom's TC. It is actually a 93. Is that still a rare one? By the way have you ever seen the movie Dazed & Confused? It is set a few years after the period you described, but features a nice Judge.

RE: Would someone please

No, never saw that movie - but last weekend I went to the East Coast Annual GTO Nationals and I saw 11 Judges all in a row, Incl. 1 convertible in Carosel Red (Orange), an ultra rare "CAN AM" and other really rare stuff. 95% of them were flawless, and many were trucked in. Cars from Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Pa, Jersey, NY, Delaware, Maryland and Ohio. It was a 3 day affair. We only went to the Concours on Sat. AM & PM.
