WTB: broken anti-sway bar bracket

I'm sure I have one stock set lying around, or you could go for a better solution HERE.

Let me know what you want to do.

Besides the greasing option, how are those different than these?:

I know the front part of the bracket is a latch/lock style connection, but drilling out a hole would accomodate the universal kit, right?

It's been a while, but I used the stock universal set on the back of my now deceased 93.

Actually, the rear of the stock bracket is where the "latch/lock" is.

I suppose you could use the ES mounts without my stainless steel reinforcing brackets, but I chose to do it the best way I could figure out.

Finally someone started to sell "upgrades" the stock brackets are VERY WEAK esp if you have an upgraded bar. I snapped a stock bracket in 2 months after having a bigger rear sway.

Really?

I went to 1.25" bars 3 years ago and the stock stuff has held up...

I've had my Addco bar for a couple years with no problems. I shimmed the brackets so they fit correctly.

I shimmed it also but all that did was create a neat little soundtrack for when the bracket popped and all the shims hit the asphalt at 70mph.

I know of a few others that popped that bracket, its design is VERY weak. And I believe I was running a 1 3/4 bar also.

I can see it being weak for that large of a bar.

I was not arguing the point, only stating my experience. It may not be a DD but it does see abuse.

I've had a 1 3/8" ADDCO bar on my SC for almost 10 years and 80K+ miles, using the stock brackets, without an issue (not shimmed, BTW). I recently upgraded to the ES bushings with my SS brackets, after doing so first on my LSC with a 1 1/4" ADDCO bar. :D

However, I know of several people, both with T-Birds and Mark VIIIs, that have broken the brackets, some even with the stock bars.

It's a crap-shoot, and a poor design. :frown:

And, the bushings that ADDCO sends with their bars are really junk, just poorly bored out smaller bushings.

You mean 1 3/8, right?

This is my third stock bracket to break with the 1 1/4 inch bar. First two broke on a snow ski trip (see calendar for pic) the car was probably a little over loaded. LOL

Got two new (used) ones and just had one of them fail. they have all been shimmed. Darn mountain raods!!

I have a set coming from DLF and with what I have read about his work-Long after the rest of the car falls apart into little pieces, The anti-sway bar brackets will still be attatched.

LOL! :D

I finished the stainless steel brackets yesterday, just waiting on the ES bushings to arrive. Your kit will ship via USPS Priority on Friday.

I suspect that many of the failures can also be attributed to overtightening the end links. The aftermarket end links are only supposed to be tightened until the center sleeve just stops rotating. Most folks crank them way too tight. ;)

OK I'll take a look at them, I did install aftermarket end links from Super Coupe Performance, but I thought (if I remember right) that they are adjusted to make the anti-sway bar level.

So If I centered and over thightened (not sure I did, but maybe) that could cause the bracket to break? less play at the end-link, but isnt that the idea?

What am I not understanding?

The adjustment on the aftermarket links is made by changing the length of the center sleeve (A). You need to have the proper length sleeve so that the bar and the LCA's are parallel to each other.

There also needs to be some play at the end link bushings in order for the bar to pivot properly in the mounting bushings. If the end link bushings are too tight, as in really cranked down, then the bar cannot rotate freely in the mounting bushings and there will be side forces that can lead to the mounting brackets failing.

OK, so if I over tightened the end links causing the brackets to break (sounds like I did) should the end links be relplaced also or just correctly installed.
I have not looked but I think if I over thightened them the bushings are probably bad.

Edit: I think I just answered my own question. LOL

No, the end links should be fine. Poly can take an enormous amount of abuse.
